Floor Jack Servicing

Post by Nev62 »

I have two small issues with my floor jack (2 1/4 ton);

1. Seems to be low on fluid ie gets 3rd of the way up and then each stroke of the handle gives it only a very small amount of upward travel.

2. It take some force on the handle to lower the jack making a smooth drop bloody hard.

Can power steering or brake fluid be used to top up the bottle (and how full is Full)?

Is there anyway to adjust the lock so the handle does not have to be refeed to lower the jack?

I had a similar problem a few years ago.
It progressively got worse, to the stage where it wouldn't pump up.

Stripped it, and the piston seal was stuffed.
Replaced this and filled the reservoir with ATF (because that's what I had).

Works fine.
