The tool used to adjust the nuckle bearing preload, is a PITA, Max Ellerys workshop manual for 40's shows you how to use it, I sourced mine from the local Toyota dealer, $50 deposit.

The tool is used to allign the spindle/nuckle with the diff housing, you first allign the housing using shims then add and subtract shims to the top and bottom of the housing to adjust pre load.

The best mothod is to keep the shims that come off the top and the bottom of the nuckle seperate, change bearing/seal ect and then put them back where they came from. Have a search on Pirate4x4.com there was someone making their own allinging tool,

Hope this helps :)
