semi to full floating axles
Hi Guys..
looking at my FJ40 - 1973 it seems to have semi floating axles. Im having a few issues with the Diff.. basically its farked. I have another, but its a 30 spline... and may have the same problem as the original i have - pinion shaft wobble.
my question is what do i need to convert to a full floating axles... the whole axle assembly?.. also does anyone have a diff that would suit my 28 spline laying around??.. (will post in wanted too)
cheers

ohhhhh shite... it really didnt look that deep!
Drop the lot and whack in a full floater...or tighten your pinion flange nut maybe.
The floaters are far superior, handle breakages better, have better bearing set ups and make diff, axle and bearing maintenance far esier.
Basically go for a complete rear end replacement, your wheels, brake lines, drive shaft and suspension should all bolt straight up.

Yeah, What Mudtoy said.
Years ago I farked round with the semi floating in my 40 series before learning that the fully floating was heaps better when it came to all the things Mud toy mentioned. Dont waste your time with the Semi, source out a fully floater and be done with it.

semi floating
thanks for the feed back guys. i have pulled mine apart and managed to sort out what is going on down there. it wasnt too bad at all to pull the axles out, but i can see that the full floating option is far better.. mainly for safety out in teh bush.
what can i expect to pay for the full floating set up?..
cheers
