Using Cruiser shock mounts

Post by phippsy »

Was looking at my mates swb 40 series last night and was wondering if it would be possible to use the front shock mounts on a hilux instead of using pre fab shock hoops?? There are riveted on on the cruisers and thought it might an option...

I have got a set of these off a cruiser to use but didnt end up using them (havent got around to it yet), should work! go for it!

How are you going to get the rivets out? The bloke at the wreckers oxy'd mine out, did a good job too. I'd say it would be tough to do it with an oxy and not mess them up.

Was thinking of telling the wrecker I would grind them off and take my own gear to do it, I'm just not sure what the best way to attach it to the chassis of the hilux???

i just threw some away, and threw some away months ago when i built the rock rail, cut off perfectly too

grind the rivets back flat, and flog the top of the shock mount with a hammer, the more pieces that are still attached to the chassis the better (heavier moves less) then they come straight off, big hammer, big hits.

actually, i might even have a couple still at home!

Otherwise boofa in Toowoomba will have some!

I would want $25 cash for mine, thats for two in good condition.
hands and mums dont count!!!

They mount over the corner of the chassis, with 2 rivets in the top of the chassis rail and 2 rivets in the side of the chassis rail. I reckon weld a 10mm plate to the top of the chassis rail and drill and tap the holes. For the 2 that go thru the chassis rail i'd mark em out and cut them with a holesaw and weld in crush tubes, but you could prolly plate, drill & tap just like the top.
