Can anyone recommend a fairly cheap but agressive all terrain tyre for my fez. The wheels are unmodified and rims still standard.
You won't get Cooper ST's in the standard Feroza size (225/70R15), or any size that is legal without engineering. BFG M/T and A/T come in 215/75R15 which can be legally fitted.
Toyo make the Open Country A/T in 225/70R15 that will probably be one of the cheaper options. Cooper A/T is available in that size too but at over $200 ea. Yokohama Geolander A/T+II is another one available, but once again not cheap...

I have had two sets of Yokohama Geolanders on my Rocky. Although they are a little more expensive than others, I find that the longevity of them and also handling of the tyre is excellent. On average I get about 90,000km out of a tyre, though I regularly rotate and align my truck. The tread pattern is also more aggressive than most A/T tyres without being a mud terrain, which considering the amount of highway and also back lot driving I do here in a country area is perfect. I can only think of one occassion where they have let me down and that was where I tore the sidewall out of one with about 80,000km on it. Also I find that on road they are quieter than a set of BFG's likely because of the softer compound, they also handle REAL well on the wet bitumen. So yeah I am sold on the Yoki's.

Kell, check your tyre placard in the glovebox and you'll find the largest size listed is the 225/70R15. By law the max diameter increase allowed without engineering approval is only 15mm- 235/75R15 is around 36mm larger IIRC.

Kell, also remember that it is illegal to tape TV programs on your VCR, & don't even think about downloading pirate mp3's or using unlicenced software......
Also I don't ever want to catch you crossing the road if the green "walk" light isn't on......that's illegal ;-)

That's a pretty good wrap for the Yokkies then - I've seen Muddy drive & for ANY tyre to last that long on his truck they must be tough as nails ( or wombats )

Actually I think you'll find that isn't illegal! Unless you want to sell it or air it in public.
Once again, heaven forbid people should know that some of these things are illegal before they spend big $$$ on tyres only to get defected or void their insurance! Best to just encourage them without the truth being known- hey Mike?

I am pretty sure we are all well aware about the legallities of tyres by now
Look, practically ANY modification you do to a 4wd can be deemed illegal - got a rampod or K&N Filter ?? - illegal as it no longer complies with the manufacturers original specs for noise or emmisions. Same goes for Exhausts - do you think that new Rice Burner exhaust you have fitted now passes emmissions or drive by noise dB tests. How's that non-complianced towbar going David ?? hope you never have an accident involving your trailer - even it isn't your fault by some d%#khead running into you from behind. Hope none of you ever tow anything heavier than 750kg with your Feroza - yep, illegal again. Won't even get started with Longer Shackles, Bodylifts, Suspension Lifts, Headlight Globes upgrades ( yep, those higher wattage headlight globes are illegal )
But reallistically, we all sum up which risks we decide are acceptable to us, & which aren't. We all roll the dice & take our chances to some degree......
Are you going to be defected or sent to jail because of any of these mods ?? Highly unlikely - but no guarrantees.
Tyres aren't THAT hard to get engineered if you really want to try.....in Sydney there are a number of places that can arrange it - Queensland wouldn't be much harder ( & less of a hassle again as they don't even have annual inspections !! ) How hard did you really try David ??......I mean if Besty can rumble around the countryside in his beast then 235/75's shouldn't be that much of a hassle
Is it really up to us to warn everybody about the legallities of every mod there is ?? Should anybody even listen to you, me or anyone else on this list without checking it out from someone who really knows ?? Ring the major 4wd Modifiers & Engineers in your area who create some of the weapon 4wds out there & find out how they do it & how much it costs.

My exhaust isn't illegal, you should check up on some rules before making claims like that. The emissions do not change from fitting extractors and larger piping- unless you do something stupid like leave the oxy sensor out. Yes, open pod filters are illegal; but not likely to cause an increased risk of being involed in an accident like larger tyres could from reduced braking effectiveness and a higher centre of gravity.

Anyway - gotta run, have to finish fitting my illegal 2" Bodylift & fit my illegal 33" Goodyear MTR's to my Surf - which will be Engineered & Insured by the way.

As we all know, this website is for people to have their say about what is good, bad, legal and illegal, and as Mike says, 99% of any modification done to a vehicle that changes it from the manufacturers specifications is "ILLEGAL".................BUT....................

Mike, here in SA exhaust noise testing is carried out with the vehicle stationary and the engine at a fixed rev point (3000 RPM rings a bell?) The level is measured at a set distance and angle from the exhaust tip- mine would quite happily pass this test. The noise level is also vastly different (stricter) for late model vehicles. It's only when floored and revved hard mine gets a bit loud, but it's certainly not loud compared to a lot of vehciles on the road. Regardless, it doesn't affect the safety of my vehicle.....
Did you know an emissions test was carried out on a new BA Falcon after an aftermarket company was trying to get ADR approval for mods and guess what- it failed with no mods..... But once again emissions don't affect the safety...

OKay 1 thing....
I just sold the Feroza... with the 30 BFG muds (illegal) on 15 x 7 rims (illegal), with extractors (illegal), with a 2"sports exhaust (illegal??), without the standard front 'bash plate'(illegal), WITH A ROADWORTHY CERTIFICATE. The only thing the dude found was a crack in the windscreen, with the windscreen needing replacing, and a coulpe of oil leaks (i knew about them, but tried to hide em). Thats it... 5 years of use and abuse, 336,000 k's and thats it....
The bits are illegal, but I just got a roadworthy.... if teh insurance company dont want to pay up - sue to farker who gave a roadworthy!!!! There are ways around it....
What about suspension lifts..... QLD rules are 'whell travel not to increase by anymore than 1/3 of original bump stop distance'... do we have to prove its legal, or does it have to be proven illegal... I thought we live in a society of 'innocent until proven guilty'

oh.. forgot to add..... i'd get the biggest sized tire you could slap on there... and these days mud tires ( a good brand atleast ) goes almost as far as an a/t and you atleast get your $$'s worth.... and no tire changes! (gets rather annoying after the first time...) if you dont like the noise.. turn up the music! there are ways around it... its what i did... hell i can STILL hear my exhaust... and its fixin to get louder... i'm currently looking into seeing if i should fit another amp under the seat with the first one and stick in another 12 to pair up the orginial one i got in there.... its true! louder is better!

i think there are some goodyear mtr's that might fit a feroza.
ask mull...i think he calls himself spartacus...u'll find him in the diahatsu area he owns a rocky and he's got like 27's that pretty agressive and also 31's which are kings or something. tell him i sent ya he'll probably laugh but he should be able to help coz i think that beasts worn a few tyres in its life.
