Reverse Disco rims - legality?
What's the legality of reversing the disco rims I have on my 1980 RR (just turning them around)? The tyres I have on the rims rub, so by turning them around, I would get a greater offset and not have them scrape. Anyone know the legality/ insurance issues? I'm in Qld.

If you mean turning the wheels around and just bolting them back on it is illegal. I have seen it done (offroad only) and surprisingly the wheels don't come loose (there is no chamfer for the nuts if you bolt them on the wrong way).
If you mean cutting the centre out, changing the offset/backspacing and re-welding, then that is legal as long as the new offset is no more than 25mm (50mm overall track increase for solid axle - I think - check the numbers) wider than the widest rim offered by the manufacturer.
With a disco rim you can increase the offset by up to 15mm without reversing the rim, or 30mm minimum with reversing the rim.
To get your centre moved and rewelded you can go to Race engineering, or a guy on the northside who does a cheaper job but just as good - pm for phone number.

It is leagal to reverse the rim as what Ben has just said with the track increase guideline things, but when drilling the new hole for the valve and welding the old one up is illegal!
Now this is just what i've heard...it may be true but maybe false?
Can anyone else shed some light?

If your rim measures 95mm from the WMS to the outer edge of the rim that is probably legal. The measurements I was giving were the INCRESE in offset over std, not the overall measurement. My rims have a 30mm INCREASE in offser over std and look like yours.
