OPINIONS PLEASE

Post by Badooky »

gday guys just wanting your opinions on a couple of things

a. what do you think about a LWB maruti with a 1.6 cpi, sierra 5sp,
1.58 hi 2.5 low and 4.1 diffs pushing 33 MT/Rs?? are they to big for this combo, if so what is the weak link?
i was pushing 31s with the 1lt and 4sp though was very hard on the clutch

b. what do people think of MT/Rs. ive heard and read some very different reports on them. i mainly drive dirt and mud but am looking for rock when i get her out of the shed and back on the road.

thanks in advance
brett

Brett, are LWB Maruti's wide track? and don't they have the small 1L style CV's, if so I would guess that is your weak link.

i was running 33's ith my maruti. All I had was a S3 transfer, and put a 5th gear into the 4sp box. Lucky for you, you have the same box, very rare, that can accept a 5sp gearset. The only thing that is required is a small bit of machining at the end of the output shaft for a larger bearing.

I sold the 1 litre and 5sp from the ruti for almost 2K, I got $1200 for the box! cos it bolts upto any 1 litre suzi donk.

You should have little probs pushing the 33's

they are WT and are the same as 1.3 sierra, except they got better diff ratios, and better transfer ratios.

i have already sold the 1L and box to pay for the 1.6 and 5sp sierra box

im still debating whether 33s are to big for the moment as i cant afford a S3 right now.

So let me get this right, LWB Maruti's are wide track but not 1.3
They should have kept making them in Japan :) .

Brett don't worry about it you were already planning to run 32 mongrels. From memory they measure about the same as the mtr's (actural size 32.5)

Correct! But we get the poverty pack in australia. The indians get to cruise around with the 16valve EFI 1 litres over there!!

Maruti parts are great for the oz delivered suzis coz they have better gearing, and they bolt in really easy ;)

Fibre glass roof and ute cab are awesome too....

But if they had stayed Japanese we would still have the 1.3 wide tracks, and a better build quality.

I agree, and perhaps we could have a EFI 1.3 ute?

The maruti is built ok, but they still have the NT dash, and the chassis is not as rigid.

A mate of mine has a maruti and gives it a hard time with mud tyres. Nothing has broken yet in 60,000kms . The 1.6 and 5 speed combo is the same i use in my sierra but with 3.7 diffs and it drives 32 mongrals easily. Get a heavy duty clutch if you can afford it ,mine was about $400

3.7 diffs? I thought that after Guttless's education program I knew it all, now I am getting confused :)

3.7 diff is WT oz delivered 1.3

3.9 diff is NT oz delivered 1.3 and coily?

4.11 is WT maruti and NT 1.0 litre

So is this meaning I can get (if I can find) a WT maruti ratio and drop it into a NT housing or are they different housings.

The maruri gears will fit ANY 1.3 housing. only LJ centres are interchangable with NT 1.0 litre centres (with small amount of work)

All im saying is i think the maruti 4.1 ratio diffs combined with the 1.6 and sierra 5speed should drive well . My car is a sierra w/t with 3.7 diffs and the 1.6 - 5speed combo and drives 32inch mongrels well.
