Bump Steer? worn bushes?

Post by TUFFRANGIE »

Gday all,

My car has a problem that makes it disconcerning to drive off road. I hope you have some ideas cos offroading is fun!

I guess i should add a few required specs to give a clearer picture of the issue
SWB GQ
~3 in suspension
2 in body
33*12.5in muddies with decent offset (just stick out from factory spec st flares)

When i accelerate in 1st, 2nd or 3rd and back off quickly ie. when changing gears then get on the gas again the car SWERVES majorly to the left a meter or so maybe more. This happens in high and low range but only in 4wd. It also happens when i hit potholes or bumps in 2nd gear and faster. Ie it doesn't do it at low speeds.

I have major vibration through the wheel at 70-80kph but have established that my wheels/rims are causing this by trying my mates 31's with 7in offset-No Vibration

Is this bump steer that is causing this majorly annoying problem that makes it bloody hard to drive in 4wd esp. on slippery roads in fact 2wd is faster/easier for me to drive in. Or is it worn bushes on my leading arms/suspension components.

Thanks for all your help in advance and see you on the tracks(if i get this fixed)

i'm not sure about the front auto locker i bought the car second hand but have noticed both front wheels spinning a few times. How would the locker cause this problem?

I will check out the bushes thanks for that
