has anyone used chains for serious mud driving? or can anyone give me some info on the pros and cons of using them...

There's a tyre article in the latest 4x4 Australia and it mentions about using them in mud.

I have never done it, but I am pretty sure that there are rules against doing this in some places due to the massive damage it causes to tracks.

At least I think I remember reading that somewhere???

Just dont fit them on the front. Back then when mud tyres were non existent (i mean by 15 years ago). Dad used them and they were brilliant. Just remember to crawl not charge when using them.
Just have to check the tension every possible moment.
