The things i do just to fix a cigarette lighter. 2 days to pull the whole dash out just to solder one loose wire .
But at least i can charge my mobile again

lol.. i have the same farking problem! but i DONT want to remove my dash... so i've been going without the cig lighter... sure would love to get it back though... any chance i can take the mid section off without removing the entire dash?

is there any way to gain access to the cig lighter without tearing the dash all apart? also.. did a wire simply come apart? what exactly was wrong??

No, i tried just taking the center section out but couldn't. so i just pulled the whole thing out. Had time to burn
At the back of the cig lighter there are 2 thin steel plates approc 10mm diameter, seperated by some insulating material. But the plates are then joined by a wire. This wire was broken and i couldn,t see why the insulating material was needed so i removed it. (I did try soldering it first but wasn,t successful)
I tested it first then put it all back together.
Was heaps of fun.

I did the same, just remove the CD player and the ash tray, be prepared to cut your hands and swear a lot.
Then either replace the cig lighter with a new unit, or play with the old one. I found that mine had lost the earth, so I bought a new unit (about $5) and installed it with a new earth off the radio bracket, as I found this easier than trying to fix the old earth.
A circuit tester will help a lot, so will either patience or beer.
You will get it eventually.

But don't get too focused on slicing fingers off trying to get the original to work... unless of course you're really into that kind of thing
You might wanna consider running a new set of wires off the mains (with its own fuse of course), and putting in a socket somewhere else in the car.
I've previously placed 2nd and 3rd sockets under the passenger seat (lying loose with an extra 2m of cable for flexibility), and in the back (mounted flush into the side board).

True there, I run one in the back near the roll bar and plug things like the fluro and the spotlight in down there when camping. Its a great idea.

It's just 12V running from accessories...
Just run a new cable for it.. save yourself the hastle..
And if you use to cigarette lighter for things whilest camping, than connect it to constant.. That way you don't need the key in the ignition to use it...

I've put all the dash out just for 40 mins. And put it on again for 2 hours.
So you are pritty slow

I've had the dash out of my Rocky a few times. About an hour is what you can do it in when you know all the short cuts. I rebuilt the one presently in my Rocky from a pile of parts in a wreck I bought. That was my first experience with them. No workshop manual at that time either. Interesting to see they are completely reversable for LHD vehicles. All the exact same components used.
