Rims to suit a GU diff

Post by duncan »

When i change over to a GU diff in my GQ can I use my 15 inch rims or do I have to use 16s to fit over the discs or are they the same as late modle GQ s just with the twin spot calipers.

Depends which model GU the diffs are from. I think this is right all 4.8's have bigger brakes. The same with the later models. Early stuff can run 15" rims (GU Turbo utes).

Depends if it has the bigger brakes or not. Easest way borrow a 15" rim and try it.
Is it true that all the series 3/4 GU's have the bigger brakes?????

Bringing up and old topic but i couldnt find the info I was after.

My 01 GU ute will fit 15" steel wheels (sunraisers) but will they fit alloys?

i understand an alloy wheel is thicker.

Anyone got 15" alloys on theirs?

cheers

I have run 15inch rims on my 2000 GU ST TD42T.
And I do run 15's on my GQ with GU diffs (which were 3.9 ratio so probly early GU diffs.) Brakes are close but dont touch.

GU patrols with 4.8 petrol motors have the larger brakes. 15' Alloy rims will fit all others unlit the latest model unless they have had the brakes upgraded, but if buying alloy rims, why not go with 16'?

15" X 7" rims will not fit onto GU diffs.

I have just tried these on a front diff out of a 2.8 GU, and the caliper fouls on the rim. They do fit on the rear though (also 2.8 GU).

I am going to try 15 x 8 with -25mm offset, these I am told will fit.
Should get them tomorrow or the next day to try, so I'll let you know.

The clearance issue the OP is asking about is refering to radius clearance - as you stated, caliper front clearance is purely an issue relating to offset and centre dish shape.

The 15 x 8 with -25mm offset fit, front and rear. I have put a set of 2.8 GU diffs into my GQ and the GQ rims did not fit around the caliper due to the caliper hitting on the lip where the centre is welded in. The larger - offset allows the caliper to miss this lip on the GU diffs.
