I think that price does not include strengthening the axle housing, stronger swivel balls or lockers, so add all that on top and you could probably convert 3 Rangies to Volvo portals.

hey why stop there, get rear wheel steer (hydro) while you are at it. Maxi drive also offers this. I must speak my mind on the topic of cost. these are brand new ,purpose built ,BOLT ON portals, they've been used on a 130 in comp in africa, i think they came third. (yes the truck was still attached.lol) i have seen these portals, and the extreme effort that mal has put into design and construction and they are worth every dollar. how much does a mog or volvo axle weigh. i would guess a fair bit more than a rover and with the portals you reduce the stress up the driveline so the rover issues aren't so bad, yes they are expensive but compered to what?check out other purpose built stuff hear in oz and usa and they look a whole lot better. i personaly think Maxi Drive's products represent great value for money.

just my 5 cents (the government took my 2 cents out of cerculation)

Noone said they where crap just that they are expensive. And for the same amount of coin (these where sort of Bills words) you could put nams volvo's under you car alot cheaper and probably stronger or something very similar.

I agree that Mal Story's workmanship and the quality of the products he manufactures is second to none, but he is having to work with many original LandRover components, and the extra stress that the leverage from a 5 inch portal drop plus the extra 3.5 inches of lateral offset is just too much to expect the poor little Rangey/ 110 swivel balls and swivel bearings to cope with for vry long. In Australia at last, I seriously doubt their would b any accredited engineer that could be persuaded to approve of such a conversion, whereas Volvo axles can be and have been approved.
