Hi All
These things have dropped dramatically in price lately and my wife has alway wanted one.
Can anyone give me any info in relation to what to lookout for, faults, long term problems etc.?

Parts availibility for Suburban is not a problem, Eagle, Chevrolet Australia, Suburban Imports, Yukon and all here in Oz.
Re problems,
-Don't buy a petrol on gas
-Bear in mind that the diesels have problems with the injector pump modules, $700 parts and $600 lab. Can be rectified. PM me for more info.
-Watch out for rear diff, city based vehicles (1500 models) did have some problems
-Brakes, some vehicles went through front brakes quickly, $350 part problem fixed for good
-AC cannister needs support bracket $DIY
Don't but a base model, resale value isOK but will take you months to actually sell. Buy either LS or LT.

Yes anywhere where it can stay cooler.
Blokes on the Hummer list have found though that there is a limit to how far you can move them as eventually the signal loss caused by increased resistance in the wire causes problems.
They tried mounting them well away from the engine on the body with no success.

We have mounted them on the inner guard of Suburban and Silverado, here they get a little hotter than above the alternator.
We have also used a heat sink with a computer fan behind it. This is a similar result to above the alternator but with more work.
The only other way that can work well for road driven cars is to run a ducting from behind the bumper to force air onto the module , again remotely mounted on a plate/heat sink.
The Hummer would be a different setup as far as location of the module once moved as opposed to the Silverado/Sierra/Suburban due to engine bay configuration.
