enginering

Post by lukeash »

gady all am new to this forum and from what ive read its awsome. anyway last year i had a 7inch lift 2inch body and a 5 link but on the ol GQ. and just now have finished putting a small block chev in it. all th susp was done by the guys at mannell motors and nick assured me that its all enginered quality so it brings me to the engine.do i have a chance of getting it signed off if i run the engine on full gas. do i need a cat converter if its on full gas????? any advice would be great because i do want to get it done. one more ?

A curious engineering related question. Let's say you get a mod certified, say your suspension lift or a non-standard motor or whatever, and then later on you switch back to totally stock. Would you need to get it re-certified to take the mod plate off? Seems silly but also seems like what the letter of the law would require.

but its back to its original config?

I suppose it depends on the Mod doesnt it? EG Just bigger wheels, or lift kit, I dont think you would need engineers to go back to standard. ??

true ...BUT it had to be modified again to get back to standard.....

Fatherinlaw ( Licenced Engineer retired ) had this a couple of years back
souped up 427 into a HZ..... owner had to run straight LPG as part of the engineering cert..... done !

6 months later....
he removes the motor and drops the original 308 back in and put the petrol tank/lines etc back in so he can sell it .... gets a RWC and advertises it for sale.

2 days later while taking a potential byer for a test run...
gets pulled up and then the hard questions were asked..... copper wasnt to worried about his lack of not changing the engine number from the 427 back to the 308 but the vehicle was registered as LPG only because of the big block conversion...

He had to get it re engineered for standard engine / fuel system.

Basically if you modify anything, it needs to be engineered, its the same process for further modifications regardless of which direction they go foward or back to standard. Its the same for a house, you need a building permit etc to build a house, you need a demolishing permit etc to knock it down !

and like the govt would let us do something that was free
