Bundera Lift Gone Wrong

Post by BUNDERA »

Sorry about the short story, but i thought you guys might be interested.

Most people can probably remember my thread on fitting 35"/33" tires to my bundera and how i needed a suspension lift. Well I am upset to say the whole thing has GONE WRONG and I am NOT HAPPY.

I decided to fit a 2" Series 2000 suspension lift to the old girl ($300 for the four coils, alot cheaper than the "King Springs" which are exactly the same)

The Coils arived, I fitted them...I was not impressed

They guaranteed me 2" above stock...what a fuc*ing joke, thats all I can say. Yeah it did lift the car, but only about 15mm above stock, and the car now sits on a wierd fuc*ing angle. The car is compleatly uneven, one of the corners is only at its stock height!!!

I then went to the suplier I got the springs off and cut sik... They too were not impressed by the result and got onto the head series 2000 office.

"There is nothing wrong with the springs, the car has a bent chassie." I laughed to myself, I could not belive what they were saying, considering the car sat perfectly flat before I fitted the new springs.

I then had to take out the new suspension and replace it with the old stuff, remeasure everything and then refit the new springs and remeasure.

Wouldn't you know it one of their springs is shorter than it is supposed to be and the others are ok but are not lifting it.

Even though they know one of the springs is short they still think the car is bent, stupid fuc*s.

So the car is short on the front passanger side, and they told me that if I change the back two springs over it will lift the front end up to the suposed two inces. How stupid are these people!

They have now told me that they will most probably replace these spring with a set of custom made springs.

I tell you what, if they dont get it sorted by the end of next week I will take them to small claims!!!

Any way if bundytime reads this could you pleae tell me the dimentions of your custom springs, height, diameter of wire, diameter of inner coil, ect so I can tell them what I want, hopefully they wont stuff this up.

Once again I am sorry about the length.

What do you guys think.
Regards,
Nick

That sux :x :x Surely if the supplier agrees with you then it shouldn't be a problem for them to replace the springs....

Dude,

I bought a complete Series 2000 system for my hilux a few years ago.

It was a 2" set. And they were completely uneven as you have stated. One was standard height, while another was nearly 3 inches higher

I ended up having to take it back to them about 3 - 4 times (with the standard 500kms between measurements to let the system settle) before they got it right :x

Dan

As an aside, although the springs were fu(ked, the service I got was second to none. I had no trouble getting them to fix the situation. Must be a dealer thing :?

Hate to say it but you get what you pay for. There is no such thing as a cheap lift

Even home made SOA lifts end up costing you

If you are after a 2" lift go see arb and get an OME lift yes you will pay more than your talking about here but it will get the hieght your after and it will ride/work great also I am sure they would make a lift for the bundy

Mate they have to give you your money back. I'm not sure about Tassy but in QLD if the goods you purchase aint fit for what they say they have to give you your money back. Try consumer affairs. I wouldn't get them replaced it sounds like they are dodgy sh#t.

Aside from cannabalism, I've heard so many crook stories about Series 2000 mainly their progressive rate springs and the earlier shocks (before the XGS).
Things such as sagging springs (some within months) not getting the claimed height and shocks cacking themselves.
I'm sure you can get custom springs made up for a Bundera, heaps of guys have done it just gotta ask around a bit.

when i get a chance i will measure up my springs but for starters i would just take the others back and get a refund....
i had a set of king springs in mine and they sagged after about 6 months of abuse, the only option is to get a little bigger gauge spring.
i think my fronts are about 16mm and rear 17mm while the one's your fitting r about 14mm. But then i run a high mount and i have a soft top!!!
the old man emu stuff won't do a full 2" lift either i don't think.

maybe even go to a place like pedders and let them fit them and then u don't have to keep taking them in and out.

Or send a pic of your car so i can c the stuff u got on there and i will give u some more ideas

Thanks for all your responces, don't worry I will be handing these pieces of sh*t back fisrt thing on monday. They have sort of offered me custom coils to whatever specs that I want so I amthinking that I might do that.

Hate to say it but you get what you pay for. There is no such thing as a cheap lift ...

As for getting what you pay for, I am sorry to say but as to my knowledge, (including what other people have posted on this board) and my dealers, most aftermarket coil springs are made by knig springs this includes Series 2000 and OME, therefore they would be no different.

If I chose not the get he Series 2000 custom made coils and chose to get my money back, where abouts would I be able to get some good quality springs that will give it a 2-3" lift, (close to tassie)?

if your in tassy, you have your obvious promblems of location to start with.. :P

I feel for you.. i know exactly how you feel..i copped exactly the same responce for boab 4x4 about some dobinson springs i bought..
i told them exactly what was wrong, that the truck was sqaure and then was not after fittment of the springs..

I then told them which springs needed to be replaced, they did not listen and replaced the rear as they were the load carrying springs, no diffrence.
two weeks later i bought kings springs.

they'll BS you about fuel tank compensation, and drivers weight...its all crap...the truck has to start square.. EMPTY.
otherwise no-one would be a new truck thats on a lean would they..FFS!

Anyways onwards with the kings

I fitted them a couple months ago.
Far superior ride
better quality spring
no sag
truck sits square
and still does after months of towing and 4x4'ing.
nice combination with rancho 9000 shocks.

king springs hot compress there springs after manufacture to get ACCURATE rates and hieghts...they then match up there kits and springs that way...NO OTHER COMPANY DOES THIS.. and secondly..most other springs are made in india and imported here under licence .

Arb springs are crap
series 200 springs are crap
pedders are crap
lovels at a pinch

how do i know...i've have had all of these..in various vehicles

kings might cost a bit more...but it's right..the first time

take your springs out...say they do not deliever as they advertise and they are now unsuitable. If you also say that you have purchased another brand of spring to remedy the problem they have no option but to refund you.

failing that...walk out the front of the shop with your springs....take good aim at there front window..and then run like fuk...value for money i'd say
:D :D :D

Tell them they are in breach of sections 70 (1) and 71(1) of the Trade Practices Act and that you are entitled under law to receive a full refund of the purchase price.
I know that when i've done this in the past, the customer service gets a whole lot better.

this might be true about the old man emu springs...
But i've never seen a genuine set of kings springs fail or have cause for trouble or want..

As you say..kings might make them...but to old man specs...so i still stand by what i said

Firstly, i have an OME 2" lift in my Nissan. They have been in there for about 20,000km and are faultless. Out here the roads are ruff as, so they get a good work out.
Second, TJM are sh1t and need a good kick in the ass. I bought a heap of gear off them for my 80 series and on a trip to Emu Ck. i bent my side steps, so when i got home and pulled them off they were full of rust and they were only 3 months old. I went to head office in Geebung (at the time) and told the manager, he offered me a new set at cost, so i took them but when i was about to fit them i checked the bull bar and it to was full of rust, so i went back and they brought out the EnginREAR( they are all wankers) he told me i must have had the car under water and that it is my fault if i want to go up the beech i should have rustproofed the inside of my new bar! Consequently i was gunna kill him out front of the store with about 20 bystanders, the manager agreed to fix the problem, much to his disgust.
Fuk em! There should be a law against em, like cops.

as I understand, all series 2000 and ome springs are kingsprings. Therefore there would be no difference if I change to kings...

Please correct me if I am wrong.

thanks for all the responses.

I won!
Refunding me my money!! Now looking at other brands, kings, ome, ect. My dealer told me about enforcer shocks/springs, I always thought these were crap, but as one of you said kings make them, is this true?

Are any of you guys running enforcer shocks and springs? Are they any good? I was told that for $520 I can get 4 new springs 80mm above stock and 4 "long travel" shocks. Is this a good price? I have never looked at fitting these to my car as i thought they were crap, am i wrong?

Cheers,
Nick
