buying first 4WD- need help!!

G'day guys- just found this forum- nice work. chasing some general advice- planning to buy a 4by in the near future and can't really decide what to get. it's gotta be a wagon, preferably diesel, fairly tough coz it's more than likely going to cop a hiding, and decent on fuel and in sand
coz W.A is big and made of sand. anyone know how heavy a 60 series wagon is or a GQ patrol? also want to know fuel consumption figures

P.S- probably looking at around 10 grand and does anyone know anything about 4runners? (2.8 diesel or maybe a V6

About 2.3 tonne for an empty bare GQ wagon trick for big wagons in sand is not to load them up with too much crap & accessories or you just might have to let your tyres down more to compensate.

Most 4x4s are ....

Standard Classic Rangie unlaiden - 1900Kg
Classic Rangie with all the shite bolted on to it - 2300 Kg

It is one of the things that make them use fuel

The 4 skinner would be a bit lighter ;) There's a few in for sale section which are a good guide

Any big petrol wagon will chew the gas though :?

Just tell her it makes cleaning easier, I epoxy coated the floor for a hose out interior too :D I only striped it out fully for mudrunning, as I needed the weight for hilclimbing.

They are cheap, easy to find parts for, cheap, take a hiding, cheap, many other toyota bits bolt on, oh did I mention that they are cheap?
They have room for She indoors as well :D :D :D :D
