but how much does it cost to convert them for normal use?

such as the torque tube issues and alike

standard drums or disc conversion etc etc

I remember in a US top truck challenge years ago they stated the 404 Mog had just about the best brakes of all the entrants, and that was on drums. Bill.

Drum brakes sucks. Period.

Here is an example what happens when you take drums to the mud/swamp:



Needless to say that braking was quite "interesting" every time...

I miss original rangie disc brakes so much. I admit well-maintained drum brakes work fine and have plenty of stopping power when they are clean and dry, but IMHO discs are a *lot* better overall and more reliable.

One of the things I learnt on a 4WD course was that drum brakes MUST be cleaned after every outing.

Here's a classic example of why.

I'm assuming the brakes still worked. The shoes don't look bad, in fact they look good.

I used to have 4 wheel discs on a series 2a landy and gravel, mud and stones used to grind the pads and rotors to death very quickly too.Custom Rotors were very expensive in those days, and I found that the big 6 cylinder drum brakes lasted longer and were cheaper overall to maintain, even if they they didn.t always stop as well.
