gear shifter removal in vitara is done.

Post by SiKiD_01 »

does anyone know how to take the shifters out of the gear box in a vitara?

i see on the main shifter, there are two bolts either side. is this what i loosen/take out for the shifter to come out? does it have to be in nuetral?

what about the transfer lever? how do i take this out too.

i need to take them out so i can bend them, and maybe extend them, if i have to.

so if anyone help, thanks.

steve.

Steve,
push the sheet metal pressing that you see around the top of the gear stick down and rotate it, it will pop up allowing you to remove it. Those two screws locate it, removing them will get it out but theres no need to remove them.

Cheers Shane

done

done, the levers popped out, and now its all done.

i didnt think i needed to extend the levers, so i just bent them. still works good.

now for the finishing touches and rechecks of everything that was loosen and tightened again.

give it another day, and i'll be able to drive it to the tyre specialists for a quote on some big(ger) rubber.

thanks to all that helped.

tyres

Post by SiKiD_01 »

there are only a few places up here that sell second hand tyres, but its not a real big industry up here.

i'm after muddies, which are basically the chunkiest out of them all, and most places sell second hand AT or HT. not much for 4wd tyre.

so the only other option is for me to hunt around down south for descent second hand tyres, but then i dont really know what i'm buying, or i can just dosh out and get brand newies, for a lot of money.

oh well, the next place that can give me a good deal on big rubber for as little dollars as possible, will be the place.

oh yeah, they gotta have a 12 months intrest free drive away and pay later kinda deal.

we'll see.
