60 series xtra cab
Anyone have any ideas about a 60 series xtra cab cut (tray back style)??? I'm interested in having a go at it myself, with a few different mates involved (their trades will come in handy!!!) I know its a huge job but think it'd look great when finished.
Not sure if I want to just shorten the body by cutting and then rewelding the rear section closer, don't think I'd like the look. Was thinking more like the rear of a lux.... straight down and no gutter at the back of the cab, not on a slight taper like the rear of the 60.
Any thoughts on it or people I should talk to???

When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!
no idea 'bout how to do it or any other useful comments really, but that'd look awesome!!!!!!! pics!!!
i reckon bob the rear so u get a better departure angle, the 60's got a HUGE butt. depends on whether u want the full length of a tray tho, or if u want it for 4byin...
there's a few ppl that have done bobs and ute conversions in the members section, have a bit of a cruise thru there...

Speak to danstoyowagon from this board. He doesn't get on much but he's the guy to talk to about chopping a 60. Here's his build up thread, could do with some more pics / updates *hint-hint*

a guy from our club cut his 60 into a ute. Was running 253, std suspension, 35 simex's. Doing reasonably well in winch events. He chopped it himself. White and blue. Last I spoke to him it was coming off the road adn having a 5.0l inj put in.
I would say the cut shouldn't be too difficult, theres is quite a few chopped hanging around, and I would say any establish 4wd mech shop would have had experience with one.

my old man did the air-conditioning in this thing a few months back so got a chance to check it out (in the dark admittedly). looked like good work on the chop, sprungover as well. best bit was the motor though, apparently a clubsport spec gen3 commodore motor. very

all engineered apparently bar the springover and tires

I am in the stage of building an extra cab tray back. not far from painting. We used a one piece panel that we go plasma cut to shape.
Where do you get this plasma cut done, and any ideas on cost???? The look on that red 60 is exactly what I'm looking for... do they roll the edges to suit as well, so it'd pretty much be a stright slot in and weld job (as long as all measurement are right!!!)

Cheers

Not sure where the plasma cut was done, I think that was a couple of hundred $'s. The guy who is helping me build the car chased that up. We made a templete from some cardboard so we knew the exact shape of the cut. The rear window is out of a 54 dodge pickup (or there abouts). It has the australian standard tick as well as being a flat peice of glass and not curved. The panel lines up at the top behing the B pillar and just in front of the main structural support at the bottom so no major transfers were needed structurally. We did put some reinforcing in the panel in case of a really good whack up the rear, also part of engineering requirements. (Send me a pm with your email address and I can forward some photos). A fairly straight forward cut and weld but as with any job, it does take a fair amount of time to do. In terms of cost, well that depends on who you know.
