Some advice about buying a Cruiser...
:!: DO THIS BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR 80!!! :!:

Go to www.lcool.org and have a look around, sign up to the 80scool_aus Yahoo Group and introduce yourself and start asking all your questions. If you have any queries, need advice, want to run a few ads past some people then this is the place to do it, there are so many 80 owners in this group that know heaps of stuff about 80s.

I've ownerd a 1996 DX for about 18 months now, I'm a member, I've met some of the guys, been to Vic high country with them (in a convoy of 17 Landcruisers!) and I always get good advice. The members who regularly post are all great guys and you'll find it easy to get what you need out of the group.

My one regret was not knowing about it and joining up before I bought my beast.

Hope you go and have a look.

Cheers
Trav :)

you only need to do the big ends if it's a factory turbo, the non turbo motor won't need them.

did you get a standard, DX, or GXL?

Thanks :D

You probably wont need to go 6 inch lift to fit 35's. I am running a very soft coils and a 3" lift (I'd compare height with some 2 inch lifts) and I run 35 x 10.5 x 16 centrepedes without scrubbing anywhere. I think if you were running 12.5 wide tyres you would probably scrub though. but I dont think you would need 6 inch lift to clear them though

3" coil lift (or 2" coils with 30mm spacers) will clear 35's ok but they will scrub on the rear under full compression. mine do even with 5" coils + 15mm spacers in the rear - need to lengthen the rear bumpstops too.

what year is your bus Em? is it early enough to fit 15" wheels? think the changeover is '93? maybe '95? I don't remember.

get a highmount bar if you can get your hands on one, don't limit your choice of winches to Grimace lowmounts.

sorry its a 93 model, im taking it to puosu yes, have to fit a few big bums in the back too... poor thing its gonna be lowered after this trip  :D

I talked to one of the fellas at offroad products, he said to go with 4" coil lift and 2" body lift, rather than a 5 or 6 " coil kit...

I was going to go with the same kit Phill aka slowhilux has the 5" coil lift through mannells.. i like his flex!

stay away from the ranchos, they just don't cut it for control on the road - they are not designed for use with coil springs and even wound up as hard as they go they are under damped.

5" coils is way the way to go, body lift is sucky. get caster plates in preference to caster bushes, to preserve most of the front flex.

don't worry em, the 80's butt isn't as large as the 60, and the curves are pretty nice ;)
