Donaldson air filter.

Post by Mechman »

hi guys..
have seen these on some of the old FJ40's. i quite like the look of them, and feel one would fit in with the "theme" of my Tonk... anyone had one?
are they any good?.. how do they compare to a snorkle?
what could i expect to pay for one?. anyone got one?..lol

cheers

Rob,

Easy mod to do, frees up a heap of under bonnet space, did it to my old 40 series.

You have to make a bracket off the guard, and cut a hole through the bonnet or upper mud guard, go though the guard as the bonnet cracks between the hole and the bonnet vent over a period of time,

Cost approximate... 200 for the fiter body and about 40 for the filter it self. Place a large 'O' ring around the filter cover of the front and it will work as a snorkel, and use a 'scoop' for the intake and you will get a air ram effect, Make sure that you size it properly mine was a 8" body, 3" in and out.

My local bearing/industrial supply are the agents for donaldson, so have a look there.... they are available new... probabily the only wreckers would be an industrial/tractor wreckers.

As far as sizing, I used to run a 3" inlet and outlet on a 3b (3.4 litre) so a 253 should be ok.

Have a look here and see how you go....

thanks Cliffy, good site, hoping to get some feed back from them.
i have spoken to a wrecker here and he said he hadnt seen one for quite a while, but the last one he sold went for 110 bucks. not bad really. these guys where 4X4 only, so i will take your advice and try some truck/inductrial wreckers too.

cheers

well, it might well come to that yet. i just fancied something different. i also want to be able to drop my windscreen when im out in the bush for a shooting platform, and as i can tell id prolly need to mount the pipe work to the screen.

also i like the look of the donaldson unit. it keeps the "theme" of the truck.
