Coily Front Shocks

Post by Toj0 »

Guys,

Just blew my custom front shocks from Carrolls (Qld) and need to replace them. I've searched past topics and all over the i-net for possible shocks.

I have 2.5" spring lift and 2" body lift soon to be 3". Current compressed length is 300mm and extended is 460mm. I'm happy with the compressed length but looking for something with a bit more down travel - around 510mm. Problem is I'm told most shocks aren't designed to support a vehicle and that the tube is too thin to weld a coil seat to.

What are your opinions or what have you used that works?

Thanks,

Carl.

The shocks that RB uses are made in Japan and hell exspensive. Suzi west have custom rancho's with the spring seat already on them but don't know about the lengths. check their website.

I've got Rancho RS5117 shocks with spring seats welded on. they are 310mm compressed and 490mm extended. they offer good travel but the valving is all stuffed up for a suzuki. they have really soft compression and really hard rebound, i think they are set up to match a leaf spring vehicle. the word on the street is that the 9000 adjustable ranchos don't fit up the tube/get stuck at the top. you can get bilstien/koni etc. custom made but pricey again.

Maxed out the flex today with the shocks unbolted. Front 515mm ext. and 315mm comp.

Rear was only 430mm ext. and 280 comp. before the control arm bushes bound up.

Was looking at welding a spring seat to a set of pro-comp 3000 due to the twin tubeing. Anyone had any experience with these? Only about $120 a shock.
