2.8td flywheel. dual mass ????

Post by cookie monster »

Hello to all out there, thought id best start posting some questions after looking through the forum for the last couple of weeks ! Very informative.

Well my problem is i think i have overheated the clutch in my 2.8td paj. After a serious mud puddle got us a bit stuck!!(will be posting pics on my web page soon).
I encountered shudder from the clutch for the following week or so, but that now seems to have dissapeared! it has been replaced though by an oil leak from the rear crank seal(i think as the engine oil is coming from inside the belhousing).
after speaking to a local mechanic and local clutch suppliers they say the flywheel is a 'dual mass' one(which cannot be machined).
on speeking to one local mitsi dealer, they say it isnt. but another say it is!!!! VERY confusing !
so has anybody out there had any experience with the clutch/flywheel of the 2.8td motor.
thanks in anticipation.

Hmmm interesting one................
I checked my CAPS programme and it definitely shows a standard looking flywheel with separate ring gear but also a hydraulic damper.
It's hard to say whether their all like that or some were.
I would get your VIN no and go to your local dealer who can precisely track what set up you have and even print out the diagram.
I just luv my "clacker Jabber"

Thanks Bitsamissin for that.
Thats my problem ! I have quoted VIN no. to dealers and keep getting different answers.
I spoke to another dealer on Friday and they said it was a 4M41 engine! I beleive this is the 3.2did motor(wish i did have that one!!!!!!!!) not the 2.8 4M40. so may be they are looking at the wrong info.

Think i will call into the dealers and look at their computer myself.

Do you know of a manufacturer that does a heavy duty clutch for the 4M40 diesel ?
my local clutch and brake supplier lists one at $750, dont know the brand though.
