i have the same thing.. i dont know much about them tho..
i have only just recently started working on my engine.
Nothing is attached to the inlet on the mixer on my engine, but i am assuming that it is supposed to be vacuum operated. it lifts the plate up under vaccuum.
i can only assume that it aids in the mixing of gas and air.
my setup is this.

anyone else who has one got any tips?

God of Magnificant Ideas!
The outlet in the pic that you are queering goes to a vacum switch, this switch lifts the plate UP when the rig is on PETROL. The vacum switch is electrially operated and recives its power from the petrol lockout.
IE: when the petrol side of the fuel is selected the petrol lockout opens and the vacum switch opens which allows vacum to lift the plate UP in the mixer and the LPG lockout valve closes. The opposite occurs when the switching is reversed to LPG fuel.
The actuall vacum comes from the vacum line that runs from the carby to the dizzy and is installed by fitting a TEE piece in that line that runs between the dizzy and a low vacum point on the carby.
