Thsi Rangie competed again on Saturday, he was the frist one to drive the last hill on our stage, but blew his t/case as he got to the end(SS9, along the fenceline). We helped straigten it out when he got back to camp on Friday night. Nothing a drag chain a big tree and a log splitter wouldn't fix :D I got some pics of it when he got back to camp and also after we straightened it.

P.S. Took 180 photos on my mates Digi camera, I will post some when we download them.

got there at 8:30 !!
it was cold then , so I dont know how the competitors faired , sleeping there !! :?

I stayed at the 2 stages all day !
some awsome driving & some Weird recoveries !!

1 of the last drives of the day , Neil Cooper , awsome ,
no stopping !! no penalties !!

weirdest recovery , goes to Brett Butler !!
broke the Plasma twice , respliced it !!
eventually got it to pull , without breaking !!
his rig dug the RHF gaurd into the bank , lifted both LH wheels about 2-3
feet into the air !! then the RHR came up as well !!
So 3 wheels in the air !!!!! :shock:
then all of a sudden it rotates on the RHF corner & pops the rear wheels back down , on the hard stuff , out of the hole !!!
& away he goes to the next obsticle !! :cool:


Also the run by Bidell in the chev 45 x-tra cab !!
on the run up the hill , out of about 10 trees , he hit 8 !!!!

Got there late, missed the early starters but still didn't miss much of the action, Interesting to see each team's recovery and how much they varied, some realy fast and some not so fast, took some pics.... most of stage 3. :armsup: :armsup:

Had a great weekend, toughest comp i have ever done, tougher than the outback challenge.

If anyone has any photos of Shrek or Birdy in action i would like to get a copy.

And a big THANKS to Cheezy for offering to replace the front bar, you are a man who stands behind your products.

Great event.

A couple of things i noticed;
- On the steep hill long hills (eg. ss6) the 24 volt himount winches on birdys ute and shrek pulled about as fast as the hydraulic winch of neil cooper.
- Rangies break shit very often.
- GU front ends rule.

Good day , lots of awsome driving . These events are getting sooo fast now. Roll cages are an absolute must, as the red gq shorty found out on the last stage.....




Als roll over was more of a lay down caused by winching to the wrong side. As spectators watching we could all see what was going to happen. Cheezy called to the marshalls to stop them winching at one point, but the driver is in ultimate control and should have told his navvy to reposition the cable.
Awesome hole and hill SS12 where Al layed the shorty on its side, the hole was the perfect length for a shorty to sit in
Great day, the horsepower some of these trucks are producing is awesome.

I was there running SS10 where heaps of funny stuff happened.

*Bevan's co-driver didn't resplice the cable twice, he just tied it twice but that was the bestest ever recovery i have ever seen. All them dramas and not even 1 penalty, and to pull the rear outa the hole before the front. He was still smiling when I stopped him before the creek and told him he was outa time.
*Steve Fowler drove 2 feet into the tree and stoved the front in 1 foot, and then blasted on up the hill.
*Shreck needs higher cable hooks but managed to get the truck out OK. Once again with all the issues they had, neither lost it and were still giggling after, although suffered some penalties.
*Xtra cab 60 (Jason) busted the 2nd diff for the weekend climbing the hill, then the winch failed (Locky's motor I believe, think had a soloniod issue though!) and had to backed down the hill then winched backwards thru the creek.
*Clearing the crowd so some teams could winch from the trees to the left just to get the crowd into the action.

What more can I say. We put in a lot of work to make it happen and it all payed off. Its hard work for some of the teams but its good to see all most were still smiling at the end.

Well done to all those that competed!

No Jonesy, pegs are fine, but the driver could follow the navies instructions a bit better, " stop before the drop off and i'll take the rope off first". O well he drove great the rest of the time, mind you that stage cost us 4 places.

The weekend was one big learning curve for us.

I'm not being critical, but others that ended up where you guys did and had higher hooks got out better than you, and I hope you learnt some things, as I did, but you seem to work well together so you can only improve.
Being a marshall isn't always a good job, but it's a job thats gotta be done.

It is good to get other peoples opinions, and i value yours as you have a lot of experience, i was just hanging shit on my brothers 1 bad decision, i think he got a little cocky and wasnt thinking clearly.

As for marshalling you do it well and with no prejidice, great job on the weekend.

On a lighter note thanks for the positive coments on the way Andrew and i work togethor, it is nice to get some acknowledged by others and to be awarded a prize by Michael Elem for our teamwork.

Thanks Joe, and yes I will replace the bar as it was 1 of 6 first design bars that was a bit weaker than the later designed ones. You should have it in a day or two. Depending on !@#$ing courier's. :roll: :shock:

awesome day.

SS12 :shock:

was kinda slow to start but was worth the wait.

id say marty and west were pretty happy with their result.

they drove most of SS12 with 3 tyres, the gas lock off wire fell off, they stalled for a while. and still finished that stage 5th fastest.

only thing that let them down was penalties.

I think a special note should be taken as to the effort the marshals put in for the events.
At SS2, Fridays night stage, not only did the construct and run this stage, these guy's also put of tea and coffee for the compeditors at the end of the stage and a warm fire while they watch the other compeditors tackle the stage. The little things like this help make the event.

My mates and i were cheering on marty and Westy there as well...

He staked the beadlock and tyre deflated!

Was seaking to some mates about it today, West stepped over the cable about 4 times! Could have finished 3d or 4th :cry:

Did well to diagnose the Gas problem! Good Drive!

Gotta love that Penrite sticker! :armsup:
