I have drilled taped and fitted the studs into the hubs , I droped off the axels this morning to have the cones machined out to the larger taper but the bloke obviously dosn't want to do it for some reason dose some one have a tool i can buy borrow or hire that i can do it in the drill press at home or tell me some other options please if i have any ? Thanks Darren

you can have a hack at them with a die grinder if you're careful - use a cone washer as a template to test fit as you go.
alternatively just ream he holes out to 10mm and run them without the cones, plenty of people are doing that successfully.
I tried making reamers to suit out of coutersink drill bits but they have been too soft to go the distance. a good HSS drill bit ground to the right taper would do the job but a drill bit that diameter is a few bucks. less that $220 though!

that is the thread where I posted the tech - I have done one on a 75 ute without using the cones. I wasn't happy with it but others have posted that they have run without the cones and it is all happy.
cheers

I think that the cones are really necessary, and that's why the hubs on japanese stuff doesn't slacken and bust the studs off like the yank stuff. Like ehalf the bolts in a car though, I'm sure it is possible to do without them and and somebody will have.
I saw a hand taper drill in a shop in preston here for $36 - not sure ofthe size is applicable, but it's got to be more accurate than a die grinder.

definitely agree. that's why I wasn't too keen on propagating die grinding as an acceptable method.
I think the included angle of the 100 series cone washers is 40 degrees. really not sure. I know it is a less acute angle than the eariler ones.

I had the correct cutter made to do this job and it cost me around the $400 so i dont lend it out as ithe axles are tough material and with the correct speed and lube it cuts fine you stuff this up and it will blunt the cutter then needs a resharpen about $100. I would do your axles for $40 each but you need to get them to me. The included angle of the cutter is 36 deg i had i go with resharpend drills and other cutter intill i had the correct cutter made.
By the way i've got 4 80 series rear hubs and 2 sets of rear axles ready to go with studs collets and modded axles at $250 per vehicle set all genuine Toyota studs collets etc.

nice work Wally
. do you have a pic of your cutter?
I know the problem I was having with making them from drill bits wasn't so much blunting them but I couldn't get them to cut true, would always wander and start making the hole go triangular.
also just for reference do you know the angle for the cones for the 8mm studs?
cheers
