Location: perth - for the time being, Leaving when I can afford it
Just to get off the track
Daryl the low oil pressure happens - It should stall if you are on an angle or even flat - If its cold - The engines have a long stroke so the oil drains to the bottom of the tank once the oil's warm though it should run like a dream (apparently its a typical 60 problem)
If its only on angles though, while driving or whatever check your oil - may be low or just plain crap - It happened to me because I didn't change it in bloody 20000kms
May think about sellin' my body - very little rust
Just depends how soon you want it - wouldn't be till next year

You can't kill a 60... Believe me... I've tried...
In the end, you can... drive a gu now... still want a 60

20000 kms how crazy are you?
Its not a problem with the 60 series if they stall when starting up, it is actually meant to happen if there is no oil pressure then it cuts the engine therefore not destroying the engine. Run a good oil and on flat ground it wont happen but yeah if the truck has been parked on an angle overnight it will cut out probably once before it gets oil pressure and will continue running

just to clear up angle/leval problems
it wouldnt matter if the car was on an angle or even down 1litre in oil.
the sump holds 9.7 litres of oil '
out of that
theres only around 1.5 to 2.0 litre flowing threw the internals at any one time
the other 6.5 + litres is there to give the oil time to cool befor being pump threw the engine again
so its got nothing to do with angles etc
most commen faults why an engine takes time to build up oil pressure
blocked/restricted oil pick up (mesh filter)
blocked/restricted oil galorys
worn oil pump eg 400.000+ kms
worn bearing -eg cam bearing/crank bearing. piston pin etc etc
oil pump bypass valve faulty eg weak spring
oil filter drain back vavle not holding. eg empty filter on start up
etc etc etc
so when you crank the engine over & starts the oil has to
fill the filter 1st than all the galorys in the head/block & crank shaft befor ur oil light
goes out . or gauge reads

it sound like you have a glow plug problem
untill you can get it looked at try glowing it 3-to-5 times befor u crank the engine over
ckeck your battery terminals are clean
check the glow plug earth strap is tight on glow plug threads
and that there tightly screwed into precombuston chamber
if all that checks out ok
get the glow plug relay checked out it may not be able to supply the currant to glow ur plugs hot enuf to heat up the precombuston chamber.
try turning the ignition on.watch for the glow plug light to turn off.then wait for the relay to click out
it will only take about 3-to-5 seconds in total
then crank it over

back to 1st post
driving to work 2kms from home
thumping noise threw driveline
pulled to side off road engine stalled
tryed to restard cranked over fast except for 1 cyinder that the engine stopped for a sec than cranked over again fast
eg like hydrolic lock
but had a metal to metal sound
when it did start up it was running on 5 cylinders
very low idle speed stalling
very very bad engine shake & noise
towed home misses drove me to work in her car
now when it starts
low idle speed/rough --had to adjust idle speed up to stop stalling
no oil pressure for about 30+ seconds or more
very very sluggish doesnt rev over 2000 rpm & at time cannot get it to rev over 800rpm
does that anwser my 1st post a little clearer
on low oil pressure on start up etc etc etc etc
note befor the engine spat the dummy
id get 3/4 oil pressure on gauge in around 3-to-5 seconds of start up.
hope that eazy to understand
i did try to keep it a simple post the 1st time
