rear springs in front????????

Post by shorty.mqute »

My guess would be IFS rear springs in the rear, and your rear springs in the front with some leaves removed to get them to work. There are heaps of people on here who have done these mods, just a matter of time before they get hold of this thread.

this is a qoute i found but in a post i did about hilux springs no one could help??? wat i want to know is how hard is it to put rear leafs in front of hilux????

any help much appreciated

when doing these mods make sure you do the research before starting, one of my mates off the board stumpy is currently doing these mods and there is a bit more to it as not all the shackles and bushes wil line up depending on the model of hilux or 4 runner you are mucking around with

Standard rear springs will go into front- this is a Hilux I assume- but you will need all of the following to make it work (due to the centre pin being 2" closer to the front of the spring when compared to standard front spring)

* Extended shackles
* Modified torque rod and draglink (for steering) but much more desirable is crossover steering (only costs few hundred more)
* Very desirable is dropped spring hangers on front (usually 2"- helps for clearance with crossover steer)

Apart from much better suspension travel this mod relocates the front axle 2" forward which makes more room for bigger tyres (33" +)

An alternative is the longer IFS rear springs in front but there is much more work involved.(pic below)

yeah i'm doing this at the moment. things that you have to do are, move the front hangers forward about .5-1 inch so that the extended shackles won't fowl on the body mounts. i suggest you drop the front hangers whilst doing it as well. and whist your there go high steer or cross over. just did a cross over and handles so much better. this means you can get rid of the gay torque rod. just my 2.2 cents inc GST
