ARB Magnum electric winches

Hey all. I am tininking of buying a Magnum electric winch and was wondering what other peoples experences were with these as i have not seen them in action. It will be going on a Nissan Patrol GQ diesel SWB. Any info would be grately apprecated.

ARB requested that a cheap winch be made available to combat the lower priced winches from Brawn, R&L, TJM, etc...hence the magnum range.

Stick with Warn, you wont go wrong.

Used 9000 warn wont go more than a grand, and will serve you better.

Just cos Warn has had the market share for the last 30yrs doesnt mean they are the only one to have.
Ablout the only winches I have heard first hand reports about them failing where X9's cant remember who sold them but know of one that failed straight out of the box. The other was a Brawn which failed due to an installation F&^k up which caused the winch to twist in the cradle.

Most winches that I have heard of that have failed are Warns (and there has been a alot) and there problem where more of a maintenance issue.
On a club winch/recovery training day 4 warn winches where unuasble. Problems ranged from vrap Batts, wiring and siezed internals.


So if the Magnum is an old Warn design it should do the job and be a good product. Just remember these things need maintenance.

If you look at the ratio of Warn winches compared to all the others put together Warn outnumber them big time. Most of the failures of Warn winches come from modified winches and lack of maintenance.

I have one and it works ok on a hilux, all though a bit slower than a warn.
I did burn out the motor the second time i used it but they replaced it under warranty no worries. They said it was the first one it had happened to so they might of wanted to look at it. Havn't needed to use it much since i got f+r lockers. :lol: If i had money to spare i'd propably buy a warn HS 9500.
Allways been a TOYOTA man.
Now I'm old and grumpy as well.

could that be cause Warn out number other winches out there by about 100:1? Just a thought.

Didnt know they were cheaper Warn Winches.. interesting.

i was working at arb when the magnum winch came in, it is the old 9000lb warn just it is sent out the back door, the motor is a lower horsepower than the new 9000 but they are a good winch. so if thats what you can afford i say buy it. its the diffrence between having somthing made by warn in an american factory or having somthing from tiawan. if you want a good winch the new 9500lb si winch is more powerful than the 8000lb high mount and line speed is quicker with the amp draw is lower. the winch is abvout $1800 retail and is also cheaper. the 9500lb draws less amps and pulls faster under more load than the 8000lb high mount
