Ateco Winch Challenge
Moderator: evanstaniland
Was a good event.
Birdy pretty much had it in the bag by sat night (130pts in the lead - really only needed to start and midfield sunday SS's).
I Marshalled on SS1 and SS4.
SS1- the wombat holes caught some people out, due maninly to to much wheel speed. And slamming the cars into the last hole. Carnage - steeing 'J' on hilux and rangie front end (cv, steering and tie rods). Plus some mirrors, roof lines and 1/4 panels. And the poor tree that every jeep hit.
Probably the fastest cars thru the first sections where - Matt Fenner (disco ute) and the Barry's (Vitara ute).
SS4 - Fastest car was Matt Fenner, he didnt look fast but was very smooth. Most amusing part of the day was Alan McMullen putting the jeep on 2 wheels for about 10m, while still having time to pass comment to the Marshals.
Only carnage was to some panel work (plus the rangie with a buggered winch battery before they started).
Things that people should put on there cars. Normal stlye bar work, as not one car survived the week end with out the front of the 1/4 panels surving. And GU front ends, as they where the only teams to not have to change a CV (Plus if you had seen how much power Andrew (shrek) and Birdy where putting out and they still didnt break).
Got some photo's but not many (to busy trying to find fualts). But do have a shot of of the navi of the shrek mobile (it was good to see shrek himself put in an apearance - or was that Drafty ).

Dont know how side bars would attach to a Cheezy bar but yes they would save some carnage.
Nah not side rails, just something with uprights like a normal bar. That last stage you must have collected a tree good and proper as I dont remember the damage being that bad. We didnt see that one as Matt was itching to hit the road for the long trip back to Bendigo (glad I was only going to richmond).

Hi Guys,
I am glad that you all enjoyed the competition. I extremely enjoyed it, but I am a few years away from entering it myself...gotta work up slowly.
Anyway, Footage of the Ateco Warn Challenge will be shown on Motorworld, this coming thursday on Foxtel, so let everyone know and take a look.
The website www.awwc.org.au will be updated by the end of the week with the winners and results as well as SS results.
