Long term fix - stop the engine flexing by replacing shagged engine mounts and installing a gearbox/transfer case cross member to provide additional support to drivetrain.
So you have the 5 speed and split case cantilevered off the bellhousing?

The old girl is a 4 speed, but yeah just the 4 mounts
The guy who initially did the V8 conversion put a cross member in, but it was not directly supporting the gearbox/transfer case. It was more of a chassis support
But when the 60 series case and box went in this 'crossmember' no longer fit
I think I will just have some flat steel bent to shape and support the transfer to share the load.
The V8 and gearing is placing too much stress on the engine mounts.
Can anyone help out with a custom cross member design and/or fabbing

this is how early 40's are from the factory. 4 engine mounts on the engine and no crossmember.
Including the ones with 4 speeds and split cases? What about the later 5 speed models. Were they cantilevered?
no. only the early ones with the one piece transfer case - 3 and 4 speed (H30 and H41). 4 speeds with split case (H42) have a crossmember. changeover would be around 1978/79 I think?

OK. Shorty40 has a split case so I thought it was odd that he didn't put a cross member in when he coverted from the old case.

Dude, my whole rig is odd
At the time I wasn't sure it needed one, now I am sure
