FJ80 coil swap

Has anyone swapped FJ80 rear coils into the rear of a 4runner?

What he wants to do is use 80 series lifted coils in the back of a surf/4runner

do they all fit?
how much lift will 3" lifted 80 series springs net him?

Standard 80 series springs are @ 2" higher than 4 runner springs and then added to that the wire diameter about 3/4" compaired to 5/8" it will give you @ 5-6" of lift with the 3" springs when sitting in place.

surfection is using 2" lifted 80 springs in the back for the runner i think and it sits pretty damn hi

What is the total lift he has in the rear. I already have 6.5" of lift in the rear of my 4runner and that does not even include the body lift.

I'm not sure on my total lift, but i know the bottom of my tailgate is roughly level with my waist. I ordered 4" lift 80 series coils from pedders but have since measured and compared them with hophoars and have found they gave me standard height but heavy duty rate coils. I am using 35mm spacers and it's still not level with the front, so i'm gonna try some 2" lift ones and see how they go. So far as i know they didn't change much so any 80 coil should go in. Gruntless is running 3" lift 80 springs from dobbinsons, now THAT is a high runner !!!
I'm pretty happy with these ones, they flex alright and ride very nice on the road !!. Cheers, Jeremy

Is there anyone in Au who could call Big Balls Offroad and see how much their rear fj80 4" lift coil springs are? I am interested in these but I can only find a price on their package lift kit and I want the price on just the rear 4" lift coils.

Ya you were right. But now how am I going to get these coils? All the best coil spring manufacturers are in Australia. I wish there was an American company that made 4" + coils for fj80's.

They do alot of 80's and Ben who works there has a lux with 40" swampers and knows the lux/runner side very well.

They also make some great siderails for runner/lux/80

Ya I checked them but the biggest rear fj80 springs that I could find were 2.5".

Ya I already have 2.5" spacers. I just need some coils with stiffer spring rate and more than 4" of lift.

Ya I have seen that 4runner and I just made it the wallpaper for my computer. It is huge and flexes like crazy :shock:

I just PM'ed Liam from Big Balls Offroad and he said he could get me the coils but they come in three different spring rates: soft, medium, and heavy duty. Which spring rate should I get :?:

I would say get medium oreo, as i have had two sets of medium now and have been happy with them, i do a few bit of road driving though. If you only want it for trail use and you want max flex get the soft ones. Good luck

DUDE, ask what Liam would recommend, me personally id go soft and pimp, or medium, you are lighter than an 80, but what do i know, i've never owned anything with coils, swap some leafs in :lol:

dude im running a 3 inch no load spring in the rear of mine...........there a dobinson made spring and from what the guy told me it was the softest they made to suit an 80 i paid $230 for the pair

they also travel not to bad for an off the shelf spring

when i first did the SAS i had 4 inch springs out of a patrol and couldnt sqaush them for SH!T

i would get the soft coil if you plan on getting any travel out of it :wink:
