extracters or turbo on diesel

Post by Spartacus »

im after an engine mod that will increase power.

whats the best engine mod to do?

turbo with 2" exhaust
extractors into 2" exhaust

i understand with a turbo i turn up fuel to compensate the extra air.

its an 87 diesel rocky EFI.

cheers mullet :evilbat:

I'd go for the turbo :D
Why would you only go for a 2 inch exhaust with the turbo :?:
With a turbo the bigger the exhaust the better it will go ;) I'd go for 2 1/2 inch or bigger  will sound heaps better aswell

Just my 2 cents worth

My factory t/d was miles ahead of the n/a diesel. I had a 2.5 inch exhaust from turbo back, with one very small straight through muffler. Had the boost compensator on the inj. pump adjusted too, so at 10psi it realy went (for a rocky  ). THe sound was awesome too, like a dirty big truck, complete with wastegate noise when backing off. I had onloya short 2.5 inch pipe on back of turbo at one stange, was bit too loud for local police, got the "excuse me son, where is the rest of your exhaust " and decided to finnish it. Deffinatley go the turbo, much better option as long as your engine is in good nick.

Iv been thinking bout a turbo too But maybe you should think can my non turbo motor take it ?? the factory turbo motor of a rocky is not up to it for a period of time as iv been told ,
to get the most out of a turbo you will need a bigger exhaust than standard anyway ,
Im about to get a 2.5` exhaust then il look into it more
or ill just go a newer intercooled rocky motor!!
i will look into the cost a bit more

how much are turbo's these days still 1-3000?

already for some reason the rocky rumbles like a plane already
an its exhaust is only bout 1 inch!! (or whatever stock size is)

purchasing a newer intercool T/D engine is a good idea. but again
HOW MUCH :?

let su now when u find out

cheers, Mull :evilbat:

About 2 years ago, I bought a 2nd hand DL62 factory turbocharged motor from a specialist Daihatsu wreckers. It cost me $3000, with an intercooler and a pair of tailshafts thrown in for good measure. I expect the cost of a turbo'ed motor would still be round the same. It bolted straight in.

I think the DL62 intercooled, turbo engine would be the best way to go. Rather than trying to fit a turbo on your existing engine.

Or maybe if you can afford it, why not a conversion of some sort. eg. V6???

I'd stick with either the current motor and fitting a turbo or buying the DL62 engine. Will be a lot less hassle in the long run.

If you do decide 2 go the V6 route, chat 2 besty cause he has already done it 2 a feroza ;)

But a diesel will always win for fuel econnomy :finger:
