Next Generation Patrols

4x4 Australia Magazine, Issue 248, pg 55, For the next generation patrol the F-Alpha platform will be used. F-Alpha = "full boxed section chassis and has fully independent suspension."

that SUCKS! :x

WTF is the deal these days with stupid independant suspension all around?? 4x4's that used to be very truck like and are now very van like...like a mini-van! We got soooooo much of this junk in the USA. Our SUV market is flooded with vehicles that simply look like 4wd mini-vans. Stupid yuppie mall cruisers but people are buying them in hoards. It really is Grimace. Now if a manufacturer like Nissan feels the need to make junk like the Armada to fill a void or compete with other junk like the H2 then so be it. But they really need to pull their heads out of their asses and see that they have been keeping people happy for the last 50 years with solid axle vehicles made for use in rough conditions. To just get rid of these tried and true designs that are built for use and built to last really makes my heart sag in my chest. Not to mention it doesn't make much sense....

It would seem that in less than 5 years all we will be able to buy for REAL use is going to be older used trucks. No longer will we be able to buy something capable from the manufacturers. It is nearly this way already in the US of A. You should see all the Rubicon Jeeps in the USA that are mall cruisers! And these are supposed to be an off the shelf off-road vehicle, It really is a sick site to see....what junk!

Last thing I am curious about....how do you market something like a mall cruisers in countries where the roads still suck and where you need a good 4wd to get home at the end of the day. For example in Africa, Australia, Russia, S.America and so on......????

have a look at the market, 99.9% of 4wds sold take kids to school.. 100s and Paj's lead the way in this, and thats a fuckin big market share*, and nissan want their share.

*Market share, trendy way of sayin moolah.

Read the article again fellas.

They are talking about the next generation Patrol which is 3 to 5 years away.

They dont know if Patrol will even use that chassis and 4x4 said so in the article - they were just guessing. Also that chassis is IFS/Live rear not IFS/IRS

It would still be a crap out come, to have no full size wagon on the market without live axles.

great idea it will be a IFS/IRS before the patrol is. The next gen patrol is only report to be getting IFS. Toyota has already stated that there will be no live axle front cruiser (dont know what they are doing with the utes). Pretty sure they also reported IRS as well.
Anyway by the time it comes out I maybe able to afford a 98GU, if i'm lucky.

If they were genuinely inclined to, they could develop a vehicle with fully independent suspension all round that would outperform a live axle vehicle on and off road.

It would probably look different though.

Some smart engineers will still be able to do solid axle swaps on them. Have a look at all the solid axle Surfs, Navara/Pathfinders, Vitaras that are getting around nowadays.

2 updates i think, one later this year, as you have seen in the pics.
Call it a GU IV for want of a better name.

And in late 2005 from what i understand a whole new patrol. With who knows what specs.
