Door seal leaks

Post by MJP »

Hi,

I have a 96 Disco and the rubber door seals have two cuts in the bottom of them all. As you would guess, its great at letting in mud and water. I have seen it on s2 Discos as well and was wondering if anyone had an easy fix for them short of replacing them all together.

Thanks. :D

those are engineered into the door seal to let water and mud out :D :finger: :D

go to clark rubber and get some door seal rubber they sell by the metre and redo it... make sure to put the join in an upper corner ;)

Get some rubber tube used to tuck fly screen mesh into the frame, 60c a meter at Bunnings, then feed it through the inside of the door seal all the way around. Use silicone spray to help it around, then just seal off the splits with some black silicone. Now your doors will have a nice tight seal, sound solid when you close them and the seals will also prevent water and mud getting in. 20mtrs will do all doors including the back one :D

When other vehicle manufacturers want to test the effectivness of their door and body seals they wind up all the windows and close all the vents. Then they put a live cat inside the car and check it 2 days later. If the cat is dead due to lack of oxygen the seals are deemed to be sound.
Land Rover tried this test once and when they checked, the cat had disappeared.
My apprentice once slammed a stage 1 Landy door on my fingers. with the door fully closed I was able to pull my fingers out without any injuries, honest.
