Coil Spacers....Which way to install?

Post by fatassgq »

Hey guys,
nuther retarded question I guess.

There is actually a post in another forum about which end the spacers go onto a patrol front spring but last I looked there was three saying the top and one saying the bottom?

I have some 1" spacers I was going to put on to bring back some of my lift that has sagged but I want to be sure I am putting the things in right.

So is it on the top or on the bottom of the spring? And is it the same for front and back?

Thanks
Brian

Pretty easy to do it thou. Just gotta have a jack thats high enough to lift the rear end above the springs ;)

I used a concrete block on my trolley jack and lifted it. No dramas.

Used th same block on my mates navara.. and it blasted itself apart

Lucky it didnt happen when i was doin my coil spacers :?

depends on the spacers. Solid washer type with smaller hole go on the bottom. Larger stepped ones with big hole go on the top.

OK,.........

I have 4 of em in total and two have just a normal flat style with the hole being about 120mm

And two others that have a distinct step in the outer bit. The hole looks about the same size. The step looks like it is there to locate the spring I guess.

Which is which? I bought em from a shop as a kit so obviously one goes on the front and one on the rear but which?

Thanks

Ok just went out and had a look at the truck and without much doubt this would be how they go.

The flat type ones do have a small lip on the inner to help keep spring in place. And the fronts locate at the top.......
So... Flat type ones on the front and underneath the spring.

And the stepped ones must go on top of the rear springs. After taking out the standard rubber spacers.

thanks for the help

Ok had a good look.....

The front ones (with the step) go on top of the spring at the front.
The step is on both sides so it fits into the standard spring mount lip and still retains the lip to locate the spring.

The flat ones must go underneath the rear springs. Thus retaining the top spring locating lip.

Only thing is the holes in the ones I have are between 100 (for the front ones) and 120 for the rear ones.

Are GU spring mounts larger than GQ. Have I got the wrong ones?

Thanks for all the help.

GU same size as GQ
I would put rear ones on top. 2 reasons
1, Seat flat on top, pigtail on BOTTOM.
2, spring under more sideways duress at bottom under extension

Welcome to Bruce's good comment for the year!!! hehe

80mm hole would definately need a 're-sleave', insert leg of lamb, remove bone.........

I've got 3 centimeter ones from Redlands 4wd centre and all of mine go on top of the springs.

The stepped one goes on top of the front coils and the other flat ones go on top of the rear coils.

GU and GQ ones are the same. Mine came with the same part number for both models stuck on them.

Cheers
