Hi,
I am new here with SIII Stage One V8 1984.
I have just found that my red schocks are Pedders - what is this ?
I come from Europe and this brandname tells me absolutely nothing
Are they reliable, good quality or should I start some research to replace them asap...
Thanks for advice
adam

PEDDERS shocks - what's that ?!
Moderator: Micka
Adam. Peddars is an Australian Company. I dont really know if their stuff is good quality but most of their shocks I have seen on leaf sprung LandRovers have been too long to permit full suspension uptravel so they fail prematurely. If you can source the genuine Woodhead shocks then they are still the best for your vehicle. Having personally spent many hundreds of dollars over the years on Bilsteins, Koni's etc, only to have them fail after a short servicelife I am convinced that the old English Woodhead shocks as fitted to series 1-2 and 3 Landeys were the best .
Like most British made products,LandRovers included, they are probably crap now.
Bill.

Pedders
Most Pedders 4x4 shocks are re labled Gabriels and dont seem to last more than 2 years with moderate use - on my rangie anyway.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

gabriel make a lot of shocks for other brands, but they are made to spec, that means they are not restickered gabriels. if a customer (ac delco, pedders, oem, etc) wants crap, that is what they get. i know the ac delcos are better than the gabriels, (car line). the same is with brake pads. ac delco pads are made by bendix, to ac delco ingredients, and bendix are bleeding, cos their compound is crap, yet they cant market the ac stuff as theirs, as they dont own it.

I know my Pedders springs I had fitted when the air suspension shit itself only lasted 2 years of hard use and they sagged bigtime on the RHS (typically Rangie when the suspension is worn out). Never used there shocks though.
Pending on use, shocks are stuffed after a couple of yearsd of regular off-road work anyway, so expensive doesn't always mean the best. I have RS9000 adjustable Ranchos and after 3 years there worn out on the front and not far off in the back.

Trav
