Would 2 lsd's work better than 1 locker?
Moderators: toaddog, TWISTY, V8Patrol, Moderators
Depends on the situation and the LSD. ETC which is similar to having 2 LSD's I found works better than a single locker generally when all wheels are on the ground. If you are into lifting wheels etc then the single locker is the go. A Locker are more positive and works well when you are going slow. I vote the locker

had dramas with lockrights - so one arb will do.
front is better for crawling up and over
i would rather not break more cvs and on/off reduces chances...
why would back be better
there is always situations when front or back would be best...front often better for ifs, as they lift front a lot...I reckon back is best for steep climbs, as weight transfers to back, then front becomes useless ish...you will want both in the end, so try it, .... can change it to other end if ya want? christover

How much cheaper will a second lsd be over a locker?

What drugs are those on that would put one in the front? I would go for a ARB in the rear even if I already had an LSD in there. Nothing beats positive traction and you can't comment as to how effective they are unless you've had them... I don't know anyone who would turn back.
As for it in the front
sure they are good, but they only complement one in the rear. Front is even less effective going up hill as weight is transferred to the rear and the limitations it places upon steering, in addition to a weaker setup in comparison to the rear means that if a single locked vehicle was climbing up a hill largely because of the fact that it is locked what is going to happen when you want to turn it off/steer/ or something breaks (reasonably likely)? Front and rear is obviously the best but there is just too much stress upon the front all by itself.

Depends on how good the LSD is. My GQ went pretty much everywhere with a 350,000km rear LSD that my Rangie needed the rear locker for.
I have a Pathfinder rear LSD in the front of my GQ that is wound up tight enough to be just about a locker, I still have the stock rear GQ LSD. I can go anywhere the single locker boys can and with some loud pedal nearly anywhere a diesel with double lockers can, I leave single LSD patrols for dead and still only have a 2 inch lift & M/T's, unless of course if my wheels can't reach the ground then I've been stuffed. I haven't even mucked around with brake feathering enough to be any good with it yet.
And I still have full steering in all conditions at full lock with no busting CV worries.
I do have a rear air locker sitting in the garage ready to go in, but doubt I will ever change the front.
Lockers in the front can be uncontrollable pigs, especially Lockrites with manual steer.

My personal opinion would be a locker in the rear and an LSD up front.
But that aside my question is why does everyone bitches about auto lockers assuming it's only installed in the rear?
My only concern is the backlash and the wear on the drivetrain.
But i dont see why is it so detrimental to handling?
I'm sure it's the same thing as driving a go kart which essentially runs a dead axle. And yet everyone says it's an excellent handler.
Oh well.
