Sorry greenhilux, definately do know about these things and that there are quite a few Isuzus in the US that have the spacers fitted but dont know of anyone over here yet. Only know of people doing the balljoint flip minus the spacer. For me as an Isuzu owner I would think that I would only need spacers if I was to go higher that approx 2" of lift. Not willing to risk the extra reliability issues that may arise with the extra lift...

balljoint spacers

Not very mechanically minded, but what do the spacers do, increase track width or something?

Jacka.. they are inserted between the top a arm and swivel housing on a IFS torsion bar front end. They just allow a little more travel before the top a arm hits the bumpstop.

Dan.

A mate of mine has done both the balljoint flip and the spacer. I'll see if hes taken any pics of that setup.

Some links...

balljoint flip (wow 23mm more down travel :? )
http://www.expeditionswest.com/equipmen ... nsion.html

+ another 1/4" with spacers...
http://www.independent4x.com/
(under 'lift parts')

Call me lazy, but that's a whole lot of beer drinking time for a bit over an inch of down travel. Not sure how the cv's & steering geometry on a jackaroo would go with spacers as big as the ones originally posted.

cheers,
Chris

Havent visited in a while since I sold out and went to a Jeep over in the States. However I did use the BJ Spacers on my Troop.

Best thing I can tell you is you really dont need them unles you go over 2" The primary purpose is to bring your rig back into alinment after you crank those T-bars.

Ive ridden in Troops with and without the spacer kit, The ride quality and camber is better in lifted Troops with the BJ Spacers, But the quaility was still rough, any time you crank your T-bars almost to max for 4" of suspension lift your losing something.

I used Matts Spacers over at Indy4x

The spacers not only give you more travel (droop) to cope with a lift, they also allow you to get your camber settings right. Theoretically, i can reset my torsion bars and get another 3 or 4 inches of lift and then put spacers in. I am having some 19mm spacers made for when i finally manage to sort out my lift. I have seen spacers on another forum for a lux that were an inch thick........ if i could remember where i'd post the link.

Yeah you can and you can also cut your bump stops in half to get the same amount of wheel travel for $0

I have a 8/97 Rodeo (new shape ute) and was wondering if anyone had done a front and rear lift?

Can you do the ball joint flip on this model?

I have already wound the front t/bars up 20mm but haven't done anything to the rear yet. Is fine unless you really load up the tray as the front was a bit low anyway.

Thanks,

A quick search on the net came up with this gear.

http://www.independent4x.com/item.html? ... ID=1163612

Anyone know of an Australian supplier/importer of this or similar gear?

Anyone delt with this company before?

I'm pretty sure you can do the balljoint flip on all Rodeos....... there is a company in West Aus i think that imports the kits for Rodeo/frontera but the cost is a biatch!! would be cheaper to look at buying them from the states.

spacers

Post by Utemad »

RoeDao,

I see you are making some 19mm spacers.

How did you decide on that size?

Is there a preferred size for this spacer?

Do you plan on doing anything with your bump stop? cutting existing/making shorter one/buying shorter one?

I am going to try and make the spacers myself also. Surely it cannot be too hard.

I just decided on 19mm-3/4" Because it will allow a bit more down travel, and give me some camber adjustment in reserve. Usually the kits you get from the states have 6mm-1/4" spacers. It is possible to make them yourself if you have a good drill press to drill the holes in it, which i don't have. I do intend to cut the bump stops in half, you can buy high density half size ones from the states, i am considering getting a set of those.

spacer template

Post by Utemad »

Does anyone have a template for the 4 bolt spacer ?

Or if anyone has a 4 bolt spacer not installed could they scan it and post the image. Measurements should come out fine that way I think.

Thanks.

Guys: I did BJ flip and it helped alignemnt a bit. Never tried spacers. BTW, don't try this trick on vheicles w/ rack and pinion steering. I've heard of safety realted issues/

I sent an email to Burnin Customs and they told me not to do anything to affect the wheel travel as it will destroy the CVs.

I guess they have to say that to protect themselves. I know plenty of people who have with no dramas. I am sure they will were quicker but my ute spends not too much time with the front hubs locked anyway. Even when they are it spends even less time at full front extension.

Oh well I guess they lose the business.

i dont think they want to loose your business but are making you aware of what can happen. Basically there is a safe limit in which you can do things before problems occur.

Look at it this way, you buy an adjustable boost controller and the guy that sells it you tells you not to run over 15psi, you want to go faster and faster and in the end have 20psi on the turbo. blowing the motor is a possible out come from being stuiped. breaking cv's is an out come from being stuiped with the torsion bars and spacers.

I would fit them, winde the torsion bar to suit and check the cv doesnt bind and you will be sweet.

I understand where he was coming from. However as he is only supplying the part and not fitting it he would have been better off telling me the repercussions but then letting me decide if I still want the part.

I know that there may be problems that stem from the CV angles being to large. However I am prepared to accept those risks as I have not heard of anyone destroying an Isuzu CV joint from a 50mm lift.

I will just find some smaller bump stops when I go to the wreckers to look at those Jack springs.

go to toyota and buy some ln147 upper front bump stops, i think i mentioned these above, they fit real nice on the front of a rodeo. they cost 11ea new and most wreckers will charge you this second hand for the hassel of pulling them out.

I personally have never seen a cv break with 50mm lift, although with shock load it is possible, they are a pain in the arse to change too.
