Gear Ratio

Post by MikeMac »

Hi All

I am in the process of purchasing an Atlas II transfer case and need advise on what ratio I should go for. I am using a 1996 Chevy 350 Vortec motor, with a TH350 Auto Transmission (1st gear ratio of 2.52), Volvo portals (with 5.99 ratio) and will be running 35-37 inch tyres.

I have the option of going with either a 3, 3.8, or 4.3 ratio Atlas which will give crawl ratios of 45.28, 57.36 or 64.91 repectively.

The vehicle is used mainly for competition which involves some technical terrain which requires crawling and some steep inclines which requires some speed and momentum.

As I have not competed with an Auto Transmission before, your advise will be appreciated.
