Q re Ford Mav
Q re Ford Mav
So maverick is gq gq is maverick. Does this mean they have identical running gear and mechanicals.. What about trim levels and are they the same?
I've just got a 93 Mav XL. I bought the Gregory's service manual and everything is identical mechanically to the Patrol. The diffs vary according to trim level, however they are still Nissan gear. Could be standard, LSD, or locking on the XLT. (Why they put factory lockers on the models least likely to need them still buggers me... might as well put a winch on a carolla instead of a landcruiser) Your ID plate near the wiper washer bottle will tell you what diffs you have. Assuming it's a stocker of course.
Get yourself a manual from SuperCheap Auto for about $30

i've got an 89 mav and am not aware of it being an xl or xlt. There is no badges on it to suggest this. It has vinyl floor, fixed rear windows and no third row seats, it hasn't got full instrumentation either but it does have a tacho at least which the pov pack 80's never had. Also did have a 2/3 front seat instead of a bucket. Maybe i have a standard mav i don't really know, or care cause i like vinyl floors. I'd be interested to know more about the difference between the diffs in the mavs and the patrols, there seems to be quite a range of different types around.
As most mav's came with 205r16 (28") tires the fitted 3.9 diff ratios.
The patrols all came with 750r16 (32") or 10r15 (31") so came out with 4.1 ratios.
The 3ltr petrol patrols came with 4.3 ratios
The 2.8 diesel patrols came with 4.6 ratios
So in the real world that means if you buy a Maverick you have to budget for changing diff ratios if you intend on fitting larger tires, even 33". If you buy a Patrol you can get away with running 33" tires on 4.1 diffs.
Good luck

They are all NISSORD PATRICK!!!!!!!
I got a '92 XLT TD4.2 LWB and if looking at Nissan equivalent = TI at factory level with a few little extras on the ford..... like CAV filtration attached inline fuel and a protector plate on the chasis rails under the gearbox. The console is shorter in the Mav and the jukebox standard sux.
