Whats best GQ LWB diesel mods to do
Whats best GQ LWB diesel mods to do
I am going to purchase a GQ LWB Diesel soon (hopefully).I would love to put 35's under it but i surpose 33's will be enough. But a few questions first if i may.
a)What suspension lift is best overall as i was thinking of a 5"suspension lift and maybe a 2"body lift?
b)If its not turbo is it REALLY worthwhile getting one?
c)I want diff locks but what varietys are around and whats best?
I can get an unreg one from the auctions(89 model, non turbo, 5 speed, 7 seater, 295000kms but its stock as a rock)

A - depends on how much $ you wand to spend - 3" with a 2" body is high enough for most. Once you go past that it begins to become more involved re more $.
B - YES!!!!!!!
C - ARB airlockers, I much rather these over auto lockers/lsd's that you cannot control

What to fit 33's? go with a 3inch suspension lift, thats plenty. Also easier for insurance, and no enginers required. I just lowered mine from 6inch, down to 4inch, and its still got a mile of clearance.

fuckin oath. but only you can decide that.

ARB Air lockers. But do you need them?

What sort of $ is it going for? if its diesel, its just run in. If its petrol, its pretty old.
Why not buy the truck, and learn its capabilities first? You may suprise yourself where a stocky GQ with decent tires on it will take you. People always go throwin $10k at their car before they find out that its capable as is...
I have been with a 4wd club in my MK and 3 of the 5 GQ`s had diff locks and a 5"suspension lift and they climbed up a rock face easily.1 had the 5"suspension lift and couldnt do it and the other 1 had a 3"suspension and no diff locks and got stuck.Needless to say i got stuck in my MK and had to be pulled up.None of them had 33's or above they only had 31's.
The GQ at the auctions was for $7500.

So they had 5inch lifts and running 31's?

Also remember just cause they were in a club doesnt mean they are good drivers, Ive seen some plebs in our club out struggling on simple hills.
Price is good on the 89.

Talk about look stupid and overkill. Daves dad runs 36's with 3inch small bodylift and guard trim

Actually 3" spring lift and no body lift and guard trim.

I think that the main reason for the suspension lift was for the extra travel,so that was why i was going to go a 5"suspension.
PLEASE correct me if i am wrong but my interpritation was that not only did it give you extra ground clearance it also gave better suspension travel to manover over obstacles and keep the wheels on the ground as much as possible.

You can get long travel shocks for 3inch lift.

If your unsure, ask Hottie, he has the record for asking the same question 2000 times in 1 thread, search the tech forum for it...
i've got to say snorkel and winch forget your lift and diff locks. a snorkel will save you mega $$$$ and help the performance a little, and a winch will get you further than lift, tyres, and diff locks any day.
