Alright boys and gals, have seen a lot of talk here lately on replacing the fuel tanks in SWB pajeros with aftermarket units for longer range. Yes, I can see benefits in this but what I am aiming to do is raise the standard tank just to get it out of harms way.
Doing initial measurements the tank can go up approx 65mm (with the 2" body lift) but because of the shape of the tank I cannot get it between the chassis rails ('92, NH Paj, SWB approx 72ltr tank). That is - the tank comes down between the rails then spreads out and runs under the LHS rail by about 20mm.
What I am wanting to know is if anyone running a shorty has a different shape tank that fits between the rails only. Mounting is not a problem and I don't think cutting/notching and rewelding the chassis would be looked upon nicely. Could probably get a custom tank made but would like to explore this avenue first.

Take some measurements of the space you have to work with. ie Between rails, front-back, side-side and then hit the wreckers with a tape measure and find a suitable sized tank. I hear standard patrol tanks are pretty popular swaps. Once you've found the right size, hit the gas conversion/4wd upgrade places to see if they have anything cheap/free "lying around" that's been swapped out.

Cut the rear of your chassis off behind the panhard bracket,remove your rear body spacers and lift the rear chassis ,fuel tank ,bumper and towbar 50mm improving your whole exit angle.The front tank mounts are spaced down from the Xmember arround 75mm,so cut them off,shorten them down and reattach them.
