Temp Gauge Stuffed - Fix?

Post by Deano »

Gday Guys,

Im having difficulties with the GQ (89 Diesel) temp gauge.

The needle does move but only a little (during normal operation it only moves a few mm off needle rest at the bottom of the gauge)

Replaced the temp sender but no change.

Do the actual gauge units die/wear out? Apparently they gauge is not sold individually as a replacment part.

How do I check the functionality of the gauge, what can I do to fix it, if it's rooted?

Cheers, Deano

Remove the wire from the sender and short it directly to ground--guage should go straight to the top. Have you checked the thermostat? The guage could very well be indicating correctly. Also, check the wiring loom arounfd the sensor--check the earth cable fitted to the top of the thermostat housing also.

I'm with Nick, gauges are hardly ever the failure point. My first guess would be that your motor really is running too cool, my second would be a wiring issue.
