Disco - clutch pedal freeplay

Post by Rover South »

Hi Team

I have a query RE my newly acquired 96 300 Tdi Disco: How much clutch pedal play is normal? I can't find anything in Haynes, Rave or users manual. I have heaps of low resistance pedal travel then near the end of the travel normal resistance and very soon after that, clutch disengages and straight after that end of pedal travel (exactly the same re-engaging clutch). It feels like a 2 stage pedal - but it doesn't feel like air - I'll bleed &/or change fluid soon in any case.

Its not too hard to drive but doesn't seem 'right' to have heaps of low pressure travel then everything happening at once near the end.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you wise folks might have.

Cheers

I believe the clutch pedal spring is designed to provide assistance after pushing the clutch in about half way so it is '2 stage'

Thanks John.

Its not the greatest design in the world is it!

I wonder if anyone's made a mod to create a better pedal?
