MQ/MK Factory/Dealer options

Well i thought this might make a good thread for the bible, and well it interests me, so what factory or dealer options do you guys know of.

Theres the ones we all know of, LSD, 5 speed, aircon, power steering.
I believe my bullbar is factory (found a sticker that looked like a nissan identification sticker under alot of paint, very hard to make out tho). Ive heard deluxe's got central locking?

Were PTO winches ever a factory item?

Mine had the factory wheel arches when i got it. One trip to toolangi sorted that out quickly :cry:
Mine has p/s & a/c (now used as endless air type setup)
Mine has factory spare wheel carrier
and stuff
Also bash plates, when i got it, there was one under engine & one under gearbox / tranny. although they collect too much mud

Wheel carrier was an option also

in some O/S markets the so was the PTO... don't know about here though

-The delux versions came out with Front and rear Overhead consoles ( i got a pair :D )
-stereo was an option
-There was also an optional didital clock that sits in the dash next to the stereo that the later models tended to have.
- Various types of pin striping also came out from factory
- Factory in dash TACHO is an option on both Diesel and Petrols as well, This is commonly replaced with either a in dash analogue clock or just a plain old boring nissan sign.

thats about all i can think of for the moment, will Tonka if ive missed anything......

Yeh ive got a few of those, including the clock. It has time, date and stopwatch functions. Flash for a 20 year old 4wd!

I know in my nissan workshop manual it says the cyclone pre-cleaner is optional

As you guys may or may not know...

In Japan the Patrol is called the Nissan Safari. Don't ask me why but many of them have factory PTO boxes and winch. Just doesn't seem like they would need a PTO and winch much in Japan. New Zealand seems to get a lot of Safari's imported from Japan and I see them from time to time with PTO's. I think on the MQ/MK PTO's only came in front and rear but on G60's it came in front/rear/side. I had found and bought a rear PTO which I believe was for an MQ Patrol...but it was lost in customs and is forever gone. :x

There may have been a HD clutch on MQ/MK's too...the G60's had this option.

There were different tires available as an option, but who cares about that!? Also I think there was an optional rear wing that came from Nissan.

I myself was not aware of overhead consoles from Nissan or the rear tire carrier. Both I would love to have!

i picked up the overhead consoles ( front and rear ) out of my 50th anniversary patrol. It also had a different type of centre console from standard as well.

Another option that i forgot was that the SWB's came out with optional 3 seater bench across the back and over the wheel arches rather than just a 2 seater bench in the rear.
I have this type in the 50th anniversary patrol as well.

With regards to the wheel carriersm you can get a few factory types"

- single sided body mounted ( on the left hand rear corner ) and it latches onto the middle of your tailgate. ( completely body mounted )

-Exactly the same as above but has a jerry can holder on it as well and stretched across the total width of the body, rather than latching onto the tailgate it latches onto the rear right hand corner.
Both of these types swing off the body.

- the other that i know of is a factory rear bumper swing away carrier that fully sits on the bumper.
The bumper looks like a factory rear bumber except strengthened and has a bracket off it with the wheelcarrier bolted down through it., there is also an extra support that bolts off the carrier bracket across to the rear square channel chassis cross member ( where the factory std towbar bolts to ) and bolts to the towbar location. It latches to the bumper.

there the 3 factory ones i know of. There are loads of others but not factory.

Jeff the 4.88 model, is that the MK shaped ute or the MK with GQ body still on it's chass.?

GQ coil/leaves
GQ coil/coil

but what I don't get is that some of the GQ bodies look as though their not sitting on GQ running gear, it looks identical to MQ platform :?

Does this mean that since the truck was or is a 50th anv then it must have been a 2001 GU?? That would mean it was not an option on MQ/MK's...I am still a little confused. What year is the 50th anv? Was this console an option from Nissan on MQ/Mk's?

Also a lot of options are not factory on USA trucks nor have they been for a long time. Not all but a fair share are dealer done options. Buy one and want a PTO or a/c and the dealer slaps it on a truck on the lot. This is also how our USA Patrols were all oprioned up a long time ago...

So does this different seat sit farther back in the bed thus reducing cargo space? I would like to see a picture of it! ;) Kingy has mentioned a 3 bucket MQ he has that I am also eager to see. I have seen SWB MQ/MK's with a slightly higher hard top, still removable too. It has jump seats in the rear like on G60's...also seen LWB's this way but they are non-removable hard tops with high roofs and jump seats. These I don't think were options though just different models.

Well...that is just plain cool then. Any time you want to ship one on over to me I would be stoked! :lol: I always assumed they were aftermarket or custom done, not factory. All non-Aus ones I seen have the farking spare mounted under the tank and it sucks. Mine is this way, or was.... :roll:

Not exactly the same as this but...coming out of Spain you have MQ/MK's being made into the mid or late 90's. Seems they are just the same as all the other MK's but running a 2.8l TD. I think they use a lot of stuff from GQ's in the way of elecricals, interior and so forth. Not sure though as my spanish only soso and Spain is half way around the globe form me.

The 4.88 diffs are in MK shaped ute. They only came out in the last coupla models of MK.

There was a transition between MQ/MK and the GQ.
they went, MQ then to MK in 84/85 and they went to the MK ute in 87 and then went to the very early GQ body with much of the MK running gear in 87/88 and then went to The 88 model GQ's.

Nissan slowly went about the change between the 2 rather than abruptly changing the model.

The 50th Anniversary Is an MK Patrol. The one i have is SWB 85' model
It Has the overhead consoles from factory. Not sure where Nissan got the 50th anniversary bit from but thats what the badge work says all over it

The rear seat is a 3 seater Bench in the shorty. Ive seen in a coupla times now. It has the standard mounting locations and folds up in the same way but the bench "arches" up over both the rear wheel wells.
so one person sits in the middle and the other 2 half sit on the wheel wells.

Mine was originally like this also with the tyre hugging the tank and the LWB i just stripped out had the spare under there also. It is a crap place.

One other thing ive thought of is that Nissan brang out a factory side step that runs from the rear of the front quard to the front of the rear guard. Its a checkerplate material and mounts to the lower sills on the body. This was a option in the MK's.

What do you mean by "falling to bits ???" ..... its just in need of some TLC :roll:

The 3 seater option was for 1980 models only and was specifically targeted at the farmer as a farm workhorse, it was based on the suzuki LJ50 & LJ80 stockmans and the panelvans of that era.

The compliance plate clearly states 3 seats, and it is fitted with a single bucket for the driver, & has a 1.5 seat for the remainder.
The passengers seat does NOT tilt nor is it adjustable in any way.
The rear mat does not have provisions for any further seating bolt holes as there are none in the floor to take such seats anyway.

The dash is also differant in that where most of the "normal" models had either a clock ( MQ ) or a tacho ( MK), the 3 seater has nothing but a nissan logo. There is also no trip meter, and the steering wheel was like an early 70's car ... hard plastic with no padding and only the one horn button, it is also 1" larger in diameter than later models.
There was no radio fitted either as std but was available as an option.

Airconditioning was strictly not an availible option for this model and the motor was set as a SD33 only. The radiator was a 34 core job whereas the later models had a 48 core unit fitted.

Suspension is a heavy duty setup with overider springs and shocks.

its as basic as basic gets :D and as rare as rocking horse shyte !

mmmm in my service manual it states there was a G variation, like the model plate will say KR160G

Anyone know what the G option package was, all my manual states is "heavy duty model"

My yellow patrol is a 1980 model and it has buckets, not sure whether that was factory or not though, they are from a pintara, it also has a rear seat.
It has the single horn and the Nissan sign in the dash.

But my Big Black/Green Patrol is an 82 model and it only had the nissan sign and that type of steering wheel as well from factory, all different now of course....

Me thinks the models changed a little more than we think they did :roll:

The 50th Anniversary Is an MK Patrol. The one i have is SWB 85' model


Ok now I get it. The truck is a 50th anv of Nissan as Nissan began in aprox 1935. For it to be a 50th anv Patrol it would have to be a 2001 and they missed the boat and that special model. :roll:

The rear seat is a 3 seater Bench in the shorty.


I now get this too. it was simply a SWB fitted with Ute seats. I have a bunch of MQ brochures that feature the Utes and know the seating you guys describe. Still would like to see a picture of this very rare MQ.

Man if the MQ/Mk's have half as many changes or details as the G60's you haven't seen anything yet. I know of at least 200 small changes made to the G60's from 1960-1979 and there is at least 12 obscure models including a recently discovered G60 double cab UTE that may be very rare and special to Australia. The amount of small changes made to our USA 60 series Patrol is huge for only 2616 vehicles and 9 short years of ssales.

Though G60's were getting biult for 19 years, The MQ/MK series was only being biult for about 7 years. There will be alot less differences in the MQ's than the G60's.

There are some pics of the 50th anniversary model somewhere in my thread. Its the white shorty thats all rusty in places.
If u want me to take a pic of a few bits and pieces on this rig just let me know. Will get a pic of the rear benh tomorrow.

Mmm something i just noticed today. I had to get new rear bump stops, and there are actually 2 types. One is solid, the other is about twice the height, and has 2 hollow circles through it, which i had. Dunno whats with that!

Thats the difference between an Offroad,onroad spring pack and a Tow pack.
The bigger ones are designed for the Towing spring pack i believe.

Paid $2500 for it 17 years old with 300000ks on the clock and still going strong (REAL STRONG!!)

My ute has round lights at the front, but there are other things I find strange, such as the pump number is different from the one seen in a diesel manual that I have. Also do all Mq/mks have a precleaner. From checking around locally , the older ones dont. Why are earlier vehicles (80-84) shorter than later vehicles? Is it different suspension? I understand that Nissan upgraded the rear suspension in 1985. Could anyone post sections of a mq/mk manual to me (specs, diff, suspension). Where can I get body mounts for this vehicle? Mine are shot.

The ute models ( very late MK ) came out with square and round headlights, it was not dependant on there year model.

All deisel MQ's and MK's came out factory with a pre cleaner. If there isnt one its been removed.
My 1980 model has one.
The petrols didnt have one.

With regards to what u are saying about length.
LWB are the same length through out the series and SWB are the same length through out the series.
The utes have a different length again though.
This is all to the bext of my knowledge.

If you need body mounts just go into nissan, tell em your model and buy a set.

just fitted a rear swing away and it came with a fatory jerry can (just abit beaten up)
did the passanger seat have suspension as an option

Ive only ever seen the suspension seat on the drivers seat. Never on the passenger seat.
Thats not to say its never been an option, but ive owned alot of these and have mates with a lot and it seems its only the drivers side that they have ever seen as well....

Have mosley seen drivers side, suspension seats but i have seen one down my way with factory pto winch and bar and both front seats being suspension type.
as for mine i have, a air seat base in mine now, ah like rideing on a cloud, kind of anyway

I've seen factory headlight washer/wipers too (on a Jap Deluxe).
