Diff Questions

Post by Grantw »

Are the front and rear diffs from the new 3.8L paj the same as the earlier NL 3.5L? Can lockers from the 3.5L be fitted to the 3.8L?

Grant,

It is known that the fronts are the same, hence why the new ARB front locker fits ALL from NH to current (except 3.0l auto).

The rear setup on the Gen3 is independant & therefore different setup to live , BUT the internals maybe the same. ARB has my old NL diff at the mo & are looking at doing rear locker. My guess is that no one here has had a Gen 3 rear diff apart (but I could be wrong).

Frank might know more info.

cheers

I'm pretty sure the front is the same but the rear IRS diff centre is totally different to the live axle versions unfortunately.
A guy bought an IRS centre into Geelong Diffs to get a Detroit locker made and Andrew said it is totally different (nothing interchangeable) to the live axle versions.
He was also hoping it would be the same as he has done rear Detroits for the 3.5 live axle.
He told the bloke he would be starting from scratch and it would cost $3500 the guy promptly picked up his IRS centre and hasn't been heard of since.

There will be a new project in the works.... Will follow the SAS trend. My 3.5 is not the right vehicle to do it on.
