Driver or spotter.

Who is more important, The Driver or Spotter or the Rig.

Gotta be the driver. At the end of the day, the spotter is useless if the driver doesn't listen to him. You can drive without a spotter.....spotting without a driver will get pretty boring after 2 1/2 seconds when you realise the car isn't moving though.

Only joking, I think its a team effort. You have to listern to each other, the spotter needs to know the driver and vehicle limits and the driver needs to be confidant in what the spotter says.
I think its 50/50. 8)
Needless to say Darren always says he doesnt mind putting me over shyt as he isnt in the vehicle when it goes over.

If the spotter phucks up what can the best driver in the world do once the rig is off line.

For Xtreme Rock stuff where its very Technical the driver could still drive most of it but not as easily!

For general 4wding i think you should just "DRIVE IT" and learn what you and your vehicle can do!!!!

I also think a good spotter is also a good driver and your best spotters are someone that drives with you quite regularly.

Of course the rig has a lot to do with it, but i believe Driver and spotters ATTITUDE has a lot more influence over the final outcome more so than vehicle set-up!!!!

My Spotter 1madengineer does a excellent job and i can nearly drive blindfolded when he spots for me, unfortunatly he has entered XRCC as a competitor which means i have to get a new spotter, this is not a problem for me as we have such a great group and we all now how each other drives.

This is a huge advantage as we all have confidence in each other when it comes to spotting!!!

So to sum it all up like i said at the start its a team effort, a combination of ATTITUDE, CONFIDENCE and KNOWLEDGE.

The spotter is as important as the driver.The best team would be if you could swap rolls and still drive the same tracks.

in a competition like rockcrawling a spotter is definetely a huge asset as the luxury of multiple goes and getting out and checking for yourself isn't an option. In general 4wheeling a good driver and capable rig are probably all you need in most cases.

There is nothing worse than a bad spotter. left, left no my left, the other left crash bang $$$$$$$$

Definately a team effort but it a shiat load harder without a spotter.

A good driver can feel what is rig is doing but a spotter can see it, the angles, how the suspension is reacting to different obstacles, etc

It always good to have an extra set of eyes you can trust.

you never seem to pony up with any tech, just useless 6 month old pics and top secret squirrel shindigs, about what you may or may not be up to. For all we know you're doing soething far more sinister

Grimbo that was some very good points, I beleive a good spotter, a good reliable rig, AND a half decent driver, or at least one with a heavy loud pedal and no fear have a LOT to do with a victory. Except in Peter Antunacs case, as he is a good driver and is super capable, often the spotter doesnt even need to hop out

Too many variable, ALL are fairly important. If this topic stray its going straight to shit chat with the rest of cheezys "tech"

there should be a comp where you swap roles. you do the track once with the driver /spotter then swap roles. best aggregate times win.. pretty simple

some comps do have stages like that, outback challenge does i think, althought in that event there is rarley a need for a spotter.

Most important - in order from least to most....

4. Spotter - face it if the rig is well setup and the driver has 3/4 of a brain & experience then it's pretty much on track.....
3. Driver - Really they have to still have a fair idea of where the rig is, how the rig is positioned, what inputs are coming from the spotter, and then apply this to the actual controls.....
2. Rig - Even the best driver & nav is going to struggle is the machine is just a pile of weak crap that breaks etc....
1. The CROWD.....Surely you push the whole thing more when there's an appreciating crowd....Preferably including women baring their breasts :p

A good spotter is an awesome asset, as they will take all the guesswork out of the equation, they can see if that rock is gonna hit the diff centre or slide past it, they can see the front wheels when the truck is climbing and the bonnet is all the driver can see, they will be able to see exactly what has stopped progress and know how to correct it.
