Wendle what cvs are you running

As it says have you replaced the originals with aftermarket or gone GU front diff .I seem to beable to brake GQ ones to easy and only have a front locker and 38s wondered if only running a front loka puts more strain on them than if i was also running a rear locka as well .Just thought id ask as your running 39s what is every one else doingoh my car is a 92 diesal wagon just with extractors no turbo so not a lot of grunt either
i am runing standard ones. the ones that came with the axle in 1989
i do want to get a GU axle in there though.
In all seriousness, put a rear locker in and you will break less. i know a few people that are running a front locker only, and they all smoke heaps of CV's, and it is always because of the LSD loading up and unloading and getting a bounce going while the front is bound up, or trying to pop up something. your rig will drive everything much more gently when the rear is doing it's share of the work.
having said that, i do give my rig a flogging and treat it like a piece of shit, and they are still hanging in there. it only weighs 1280kg now though

It weighs how much?!?! Sh1t that is impressive for a trol. Do you mean 2280kg and that was a typo or have you filled the chassis rails with helium?
As soon as it was made idiot proof, someone went and designed a better idiot.
Hmmm, that would do it!
Just went through the members section and checked the story out. It looks extreeeemly cool but in some ways I think it is a shame — it sux that the 'authorities' harassed him into giving the Mav the chop. I always liked the idea of a street legal off-road weapon.

Was thinking that running to air lockers and only putting the front on when realy needed might be the go .Might ring Cheezy tomorrow for his thoughts am prepared to spend the dollars to put a GU front diff in if i can just keep my front only lock right .But if i still brake cvs then what or just twin lock my GQ stuff i realy dont no.Or just sell the whole car and start agian as i ws just offerd a J20 ute 400small block dana 60 rear dana 44 front 4 speed and 205 transfercase all for $4000

the GU diff is the best option by far.
I would buy the J20, wheel the piss out of it, and use your patrol to tow it.

and yeah, you can just swap your whole carrier with the lock right into the GU housing.
front lokka
Duncan.
What you need is selectable locker front and a locker of some type in the rear preferably selectable.
Run with the rear in and only use the front when needed. You will find that with the clearance afforded by the 38"s you will not use the front anywhere near as much as the rear...
Just my experience.
Anyway how are you?

I agree with Giles about the lockers. The GU front is the way to go, I have stock GU front ATM as I havnt had time to fit my new CV's. I have been seen smoking the 42's on rocks with front locker in and on full lock, then again I have an auto thats a bit softer on the driveline. I also know they are stronger than Toyota CV's as Toyota has 6 balls and Nissan has 5 balls allowing more meat between the balls in the centre star. I have tested them on a twist machine until destruction and GU CV's are as strong as dana 60 uni's.

NOW ABLE TOO SAY WHAT I WANT WITHOUT FEAR OF LOOSING SALES.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

cv's
Yes the GU cv's are much larger and therefore stronger than a GQ or Tojo unit and having seen plenty of stuffed GQ units and only 2 Stuffed GU units then the strength that cheezy mentions is well founded. however the cost of a GU front and two selectable lockers is fairly steep, so if it were me I would get the lockers first and then if necessary get a GU front axle, but chances are with a low power rig like yours(no offence) then with selctable lockers and care you will have minimal if any probs, and save $2000 plus for a GU front axle assy.
Just my 2 cents...

Thanks Giles and Cheesy im sure i was quoted $1300 for a GU front about 2 months ago but the guy now wants $2500 plus $300 penalty for not having a GU houseing to swap him back i think hes got a screw loose. Was told by a mate of a guy with front and rear GU forsale for $1500 but the front s bent. This would still be ok to get straightend then just run the front locker but then ive got to re do all my 5 link stuff and rear shock mounts so it might be easier to just put a locker in the rear but which one .I have run locrights front and rear before and found them to be ok just that they unload some times going round roundabouts or run with the hassels of a Airlocka you no bad electrics and shity air lines some input from you guys would be ideal. Can get a Airlocka just center and switch and solinoid for $1060 as ive got a enginre driven compresor and tank already will have to find out how much detroits are worth .Idealy id fit a OX locker which is what i fitted to the front diff of the wifes Jeep selectable but cable operated excellent locker.Oh Giles no offence taken mate the big block diesal is still chugging along went to a good rock crawling place near home and have pics of the front under water with the 38s on getting through a stream before trying to get out the other end .Should get some of the Quad drive guys to come for a play Grahame with the zuk who works at Veirers has been good laugh also a good climb in the forrest near as well lots of deep mud in Kities gorge saw a zuk on its roof last weekend
