Hi all,
I have currently been researching suspension setups for my rig I can't afford full coil-overs :< I have chatted with a few guys in the rock crawling and extreme 4x4 event circuits is the USA. Now they have put me on to the next best thing these fox 2.0 air shocks which are less than half the price of coil overs. From what I have read and have been told, they are the bees knees for the light to medium weight trucks as you don't need any springs at all cool hu:> over that weight you can add the coil over setup on to them. They are full ride height adjustable and fully rebuild able, you can change the valves as well, making them very versatile for different events. From what I can find they are available in travel lengths from 10” to giant 18” ones, now what I was hoping that some people here in Australia could give me some feed back on them before I go spend the bucks :> I know that not many people here run them yet so I would be good to get more minds on this, I have posted some links so any one can check them out.

I forgot to mention after looking around for a distributer here in Australia for them I found M&M custom 4x4 engineering can sell them and have offered them at great price of $515each if I can find homes for 8 or more shocks on top of my 4, as the cost of getting them here in bulk is far cheaper than single sets :> So any one intrested in them let me know or you can contact M&M directly on 02 62915994 as I am in victoria and they would be better to answer any questions about them :>

Air shocks sound perfect for your application.
Almost every competitor in USA is running them. They are lighter, more quickly adusted and cheaper than coilovers.
M&M also sells a nirogen kit that allows you to adjust the oil level and nitrogen pressure while on the trail! Lets see you do that with a coilovers.

The valving in the airshocks is pretty dialed in and more of a final adjustment than a starting point. The biggest things you need to play with are the oil level and nitrogen pressure. It can take a lot of fooling with to get it really dialed in. Although it takes more adjustments the adjustments are easy to make. Airshocks may require 10 adjustments and a coilover may require 3 adjustments. The difference is that those 10 adjustments can be made while on the trail and within the coarse of day where as the coilover will be required to order new springs which may take several days each time.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with them, i am just curious as i am yet to see a vehicle use anywhere near that amount of stoke!!!!
And i would imagine that they would cost a shait load more! In fact i would imagine quite a lot more!! (maybe not )

These guys are leading the WORLD in rockcrawling, we can and have learnt a lot from these guys. Its a shame that a lot of us are blind to what they are driving and the equipment they are using and WHY they are using it!
I do not believe for one second that you have never copied off what someone else is using or has used.
These guys are the best in the world in a sport that we are involved in, if Tracy Jordan and a few of the top runners only using 14 inch Fox Shox and not 18's i want to know why. Is it because he was given them, maybe he just has not upgraded to the 18's yet, maybe for the terrain they are driving they don't use all the travel anyway, maybe they cost to much, maybe he knows that 4 foot of Flex is overrated.
So what is the advantage of a 4 inch longer shock, will it get me up that climb, over that ledge or will it stop me from falling over (as much).
So i ask again , Why do you guys need the 18 inch travel ones????
Is it really going to increase travel that much, if so is that a major advantage???

P.S i am not been a smart arse, i do want to know!!!!
The other main reason i want to know is, i get to watch the Lockless drive and it has a total of 2 inchs travel (plus or minus a few inches, mainly minus ) and yet it can stich up buggy's with shait loads of wheel travel! (yes i know it has a lot to do with the driver, but we are talking EQUIPMENT here).

as apposed to alot of guys that lay them over at angles , or extreme angles....which makes to shock far less effective in doing its job ( more often just shocks as apposed to coil overs )

You are right that not everyone needs to have 18's. I set a lot of guys up with 14's in the front and 16's in the rear. These however are mostly trail rigs, not comp rigs.
The reason the guys in the states arnt running 18's yet is that the 18's have only been out for a month. All their rigs were built last winter before the 18's were available.
As far as needing 18" of travel, I dont see how it can hurt. And who knows, maybe next season all the USA guys will be running them?

as trd said why not build what works for us we arnt in america we dont have there terrain build it to our terrain
they dont really need all that much flex it is mostly ledges that they drive id say thats why they only run the short ones

this is great so much disscusion it has been a great help I have decided to run the Air shocks and have placed an order for them :> Buy the way got the price back from Racer Imports $530 a corner so I have decided to go through Sean and Matt at M&M 4x4 engineering better price and they have been a great help with getting all the technical details and info on the shocks!
As for why will I be running such long shocks several reasons the first been the truck is fully custom there for no orginal mounts are going to be used allowing placment of any shock lenght I wish:> Second greater range of adjustment and better positioning ie. less angles on shocks means better body control. Easyer to setup bump stops, the list of reaseons gos on and on, but one of the biggest reasons is, as mentioned earlyer No one is useing them yet, so there for I have an advantage, one less limitation on the long list limitations you come up against! Plus if no tried any new products then there would be no advancement in the sport.

Nearly every decent 4runner/lux on pirate and plenty here are maxing out 14/15 inch shocks in the front end with leaf springs... three inches more, specially in the rear isn't all that hard. It won't neccasarily be as stable as a 14/16 inch stroke shock though. Either way definatly post pics. The shocks are softest in their midrange travel, so it'd be interesting to see if in a bouncy/flexed out situation this limits the 'floppyness' of the rig side to side. Jamie you got any wise words to say bout this ?
Still waiting to hear a final price on what sort of deal i can get for the 18s.

We have been getting calls asking how the foxshoxs perform offroad. We so if you are a visual person we have a DVD available called Twistablility.
It predominately features the Spiderrtrax Buggies(and mates) in competition and out rockcrawling, alot of the footage shows the performance of the foxshoxs). From the DVD you can see with your own eyes how well the FoxShox perform on buggies and Hiluxs. Get a few mates together to buy a DVD & see how those airshoxs perform.
